Genesis keyboardist Tony Banks has made several stabs at a solo career since 1978, writing and recording in various styles and occasionally under different group names. However, none of his attempts have been very commercially successful, a sore point for the man many deem responsible for a large portion of the Genesis sound…

"Abacab" is the eleventh studio album by English rock band Genesis, released on 18 September 1981 in the United Kingdom by Charisma Records and 24 September 1981 in the United States by Atlantic Records. After their 1980 tour in support of their previous album Duke, the band took a break before they reconvened in 1981 to write and record a new album. Abacab is the first Genesis album recorded at The Farm, a recording studio bought by the group in Chiddingfold, Surrey. It marked the band's development from their progressive roots into more accessible and pop-oriented songs, and their conscious decision to write songs unlike their previous albums. "Abacab" received a mostly positive reception from critics and was a commercial success for the band, reaching #1 on the UK Albums Chart and #7 on the US Billboard 200.

Singing drummer (or drumming singer?) Phil Collins, born January 30, 1951, first earned recognition as a member of the prog rock group Genesis. While still a member of Genesis, Collins began a wildly successful solo career, releasing his first album Face Value, featuring the hit single "In the Air Tonight," in 1981. Collins would follow with a string of soulful pop hits that would make him a ubiquitous radio presence, including: "Against All Odds," "Easy Lover" (a duet with Earth, Wind and Fire's Philip Bailey), his cover of the Supremes' "You Can't Hurry Love," "Sussudio," and "Don't Lose My Number."

"The Fugitive" is the second solo studio album by Genesis keyboardist Tony Banks. This classic LP was first released in June 1983 by Charisma Records and four months prior to the release of the album Genesis and began life as a series of home demos and was completed at Genesis' The Farm studio. "The Fugitive" featured contributions from Daryl Stuermer on guitars, Mo Foster on bass and drummers Steve Gadd, Tony Beard and Andy Duncan and for the first time Tony Banks sang lead vocals on all of the songs. Significantly, this new edition has been remixed from the original master tapes by Nick Davis and Tony Banks.

Progressive Rock / Prog Pop

Genesis started life as a progressive rock band, in the manner of Yes and King Crimson, before a series of membership changes brought about a transformation in their sound, into one of the most successful pop/rock bands of the 1980s and 1990s. In addition, the group has provided a launching pad for the superstardom of members Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins, and star solo careers for members Tony Banks, Michael Rutherford, and Steve Hackett…
