Grothendieck

The book provides the proof of a complex geometric version of a well-known result in algebraic geometry: the theorem of Riemann–Roch–Grothendieck for proper submersions. It gives an equality of cohomology classes in Bott–Chern cohomology, which is a refinement for complex manifolds of de Rham cohomology.

The focus of this book is on combinatorial objects, dessins d'enfants, which are drawings with vertices and edges on topological surfaces. Their interest lies in their relation with the set of algebraic curves defined over the closure of the rationals, and the corresponding action of the absolute Galois group on them.
