This CD has a surprising range of tracks on it. There is for exaple the very jazzy version of "happy birthday" that is just easy listened to, amongst others. On the other hand though, and that is what makes this CD so exceptional, there are these songs that talk of the jewish culture and the very special spirit it has. A spirit of graet pride and joy that always bears a touch of melancholy, even sadness, tells of loss. Fascinating is that Feidman tells us these stories soley through his clarinete, he is truly an exceptional player, not so much playing it but singing through it. Worth every single penny. Singular.

At first glance, this looks like a very enticing collection, and in many ways it is: 53 songs covering a lot of the highlights and rarities in the band's history from 1963 through 1969. There are a few flaws, however, some of them minor and others potentially major, depending upon one's interests. For starters, it doesn't follow strict chronological order, opening with their biggest international hit, "Do Wah Diddy Diddy," from the summer of 1964, and then proceeding backward through October of 1963 and "Cock-A-Hoop" to July of 1963 and their jazzy debut, "Why Should We Not." That's not a huge problem; though for anyone who isn't familiar with the history, it's going to require a little sorting out.

The Bluebells’ Sisters is a perfect snapshot of early ’80s “Sound of Young Scotland”: Glasgow indie pop with bittersweet spirit, sharp hooks, and heartfelt harmonies. Signing to the then-nascent London Records, and working with a procession of esteemed producers (including Elvis Costello who became a mentor and teacher to the band), The Bluebells enjoyed three UK hits in the 1980s (‘Cath’, ‘Young at Heart’ and ‘I’m Falling’) before touring widely throughout Europe and North America, developing their live sound and signing to Seymour Stein’s Sire Records in the U.S.

Coming this November: a festive offering from Boney M featuring Liz Mitchell and producer Frank Farian, as well as guest musicians including the Philharmonic Orchestra! The all-new songs feature well-known world music mixed with Christmas lyrics. After more than 30 years success, Frank Farian has recorded a new BONEY M. studio album in his Miami home. The concept album "World Music For Christmas" had long been in its drawer. Well-known and famous melodies of the world mix with the Christmas sounds of modern times. The selection of the songs met Frank Farian meticulously and made sure that the mixture between world melodies and Christmas ambience is true. All songs have been completely re-produced! For this studio album, Frank Farian has also taken guest musicians to his new studio in Miami, and was naturally supported by Boney M. voice Liz Mitchell and the sound of a Philharmonic Orchestra.

The Essential Review by Johnny Loftus
Concrete Blonde's entry in Capitol's Essential series is similar to its Classic Masters retrospective from 2002. In fact, it's exactly the same track listing until Essential opts for "Happy Birthday" and "Sun," two tracks from 1989's Free. But neither collection adequately replaces 1996's comprehensive, out of print Recollection: The Best of Concrete Blonde, and Essential only goes as far as the 1992 LP Walking in London, excluding the following year's Mexican Moon. It's also curious that nothing unreleased could be scrounged from the vaults for this set. Still, diehards can cover with 2003's Live in Brazil (Ark 21), meaning Essential is probably OK for the casual Concrete fan. It's in chronological order for one thing, beginning with the fabulously hungry "Still in Hollywood" and rolling right through to "Caroline," "Joey," and "Tomorrow, Wendy" from the 1990 breakthrough, Bloodletting. The band's atmospheric cover of Hendrix's "Little Wing" dates from the same year, as does a live version of "Roses Grow." (Both were originally released on the Caroline single.) It might have switched out "Sun" for "Bloodletting (The Vampire Song)." And it really could have used the title track to Mexican Moon. But otherwise, Essential is a pretty satisfactory overview of Concrete Blonde's IRS output.

The long-awaited new record was produced by James Ford (Fontaines D.C., Arctic Monkeys, Depeche Mode, Blur) and sees Black Country, New Road settled into a new shape in which vocal duties – and most of the song writing – is split between Tyler Hyde, Georgia Ellery, and May Kershaw. “It created a real through line for the album, having three girls singing," says Ellery. "It's definitely very different to Ants From Up There, because of the female perspective - and the music we've made also compliments that."

This 1979 effort finds B.B. interpreting a number of pop-blues tunes, many of them co-written by Will Jennings and co-producer Joe Sample, with King co-writing two of the songs aboard. Even with a large, contemporary backdrop (including a seven-piece horn section and female backup singers), there's still plenty of room for B.B.'s stinging guitar and stentorian vocals in the mix. Highlights include the gospel-tinged "Better Not Look Down," "Same Old Story (Same Old Song)," "Happy Birthday Blues," "The Beginning of the End" and the title track. As one of B.B.'s more pop-oriented offerings, this succeeds admirably.
