Produced by The Black Keys' Dan Auerbach and recorded over three days, Hank Williams Jr.'s 57th studio album is a set of mostly covers of songs by blues greats, backed up by a killer North Mississippi band: bassist Eric Deaton (who played with T-Model Ford on Fat Possum's Juke Joint Caravan), electric slide guitarist Kenny Brown (who R.L. Burnside called "my adopted son") and drummer Kinney Kimbrough (son of Junior Kimbrough), plus Auerbach.

Polly Adelaide Hendricks Hazelwood, known professionally as Del Wood, was an American queen of the honky-tonk piano. She was born in Nashville, Tennessee. A lifetime resident of Nashville, she was surrounded by the influences of early country music and the remaining vestiges of ragtime, particularly through the guitar pickers. She took up piano at age five, and played ragtime, gospel, and country music. Despite her parent's best efforts to encourage a direction towards classical music, the environment in Nashville, plus the early local programming on radio, convinced her that she wanted to play piano in the honky-tonk style. Her dream goal was the Grand Ole Opry, something she would realize in her early 30s.

This blend of traditional country, modern country, and lots of Texas honky tonk, written and sung by one of Country Music's finest new voices, is something no lover of Country Music will want to miss.

Adam Monroe's Honky Tonk Piano was sampled from a vintage Chickering upright piano - exact age unknown - primarily through a Neumann TLM 102 microphone. The piano had undoubtedly seem some action, and although it could be tuned (one note at a time) the tone of the piano was a bit on the "honky" side.

Gerard Souzay Sings Lieder By Claude Debussey is a 1962 Deutsche Grammophon HighRes re-issue starring Gerard Souzay, baritone and pianist Dalton Baldwin. Roger Nichols has written concise and well-written music notes. All the lyrics are available in French, German and English. A great vocal performance by Mr Souzay. Highly recommended.
