After the musical uncertainty of Waterloo Lily, Caravan returned with their most inspired recording since In the Land of the Grey and Pink. The splendidly titled For Girls Who Grow Plump in the Night is several steps ahead in terms of fresh musical ideas that wholly incorporate the band's trademark humor within the otherwise serious and challenging sonic structures. Two of the more dominant reasons for the change in Caravan's sound were the return of keyboardist Dave Sinclair and the addition of violist Peter Geoffrey Richardson. Die-hard fans gladly welcomed Sinclair back, however, Richardson was met with heckles from enthusiasts during live appearances. They were soon silenced as his place on For Girls Who Grow Plump in the Night easily ranks among Caravan's watershed moments…

First, Before Dawn, now In the End of the Night - the first two albums by the Oddgeir Berg Trio essentially take place at the same time: The hours before the break of day, this unreal and meditative phase which the Portuguese call madrugada. Outwardly, not a lot has changed in terms of the music. In the End of the Night still featues an equally withdrawn and cinematic sound, subliminally resonating grooves as well as the bittersweet harmonies of Oddgeir Berg's piano. And yet, this album is definitely not without its surprises.

Between 1978 and theYo Frankie album, Dion Di Mucci abandoned secular music completely and cut nothing but gospel material for 10 years. His swansong in '78 was the album Return Of The Wanderer - this features his band the Streethearts and they play mainly Dion songs but with covers from Tom Waits, Bob Dylan and John Sebastian. However, just before he bailed out for God, one last album was cut in 1979 using much the same band and Cashman & West, the same production team. Up until now this has remained in the can, so it is with great pleasure that Ace Records announce the debut 21 years later of Fire In The Night - the long lost Dion album. The CD combines the two albums and these are the only ways in whichFire In The Night is available anywhere in its entirety. The record had obviously come very close to release in '79 since the cover was already designed and it is this original artwork that we feature here. Great value.

For Girls Who Grow Plump in the Night is the fifth studio album released by the Canterbury scene band Caravan. Richard Sinclair and Steve Miller left the band prior to the recording of this album. They were replaced by John G. Perry and the returning Dave Sinclair. Viola player Geoff Richardson was added to the band.
