"Song Bird" is a 1977 album by American singer Deniece Williams released by Columbia Records on October 28, 1977. The album went to #23 and #66 on the Black and Pop album Charts respectively. The single "Baby, Baby My Love's All For You" reached #13 and #32 on the Black and UK singles.

In 1978 Marlena Shaw released her second album on Columbia Records, "Acting Up", the follow up to "Sweet Beginnings". "Acting Up" once again featured the production genius of the legendary Bert De Coteaux with musical contributions from Abraham Laboriel whose talent made him one of the most in demand bass players of recent years, travelling and working with artists such as Lionel Ritchie, Quincy Jones and Chaka Khan to name a few and on drums, ex-Motown session drummer, Quentin Dennard, all of which helped the album reach an impressive #60 on the Cash Box R&B Charts and #171 on the Billboard 200.

"Gladys Knight" is the self-titled 2nd studio album by American singer Gladys Knight. It was released by Columbia Records in 1979 in the United States. Her only album with that label, it peaked at #71 on the US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Gladys Knight would remain Knight's last solo album until the 1991 release of "Good Woman".

This spotlights the biggest records from The Manhattans' second phase. After George "Smitty" Smith died, eventual replacement Gerald Alston brought them a fine heartache and love ballad stylist. The move to a major label in the early '70s also helped, as Columbia provided them much more publicity muscle and promotional assistance than they ever received at Carnival and Deluxe. During the mid-'70s and early '80s, they also earned their first crossover exposure with the #1 hit "Kiss And Say Goodbye," one of the songs featured on this anthology spotlighting their soul and pop hits for Columbia.

Love Talk was recorded jointly in New York and Philadelphia and has not previously been on CD. It includes "Devil in the Dark" and the US single "Here Comes the Hurt Again", both definitive Philly ballads produced by Jack Faith at Sigma Sound.

Night Rains was Janis' sixth album for CBS and features two of her first-ever co-writes: 'The Other Side Of The Sun' was written with Albert Hammond while 'Fly Too High' was co-written and produced by disco colossus Giorgio Moroder. Restless Eyes was Janis' last album for CBS. The album features guest appearances from Manhattan Transfer's Janis Siegel and Country fiddle player Byron Berline. Uncle Wonderful was recorded for the Australian Festival label and was Janis' last album before a ten year break. Something of an oddity in Janis' catalogue, the album contains a lot of synthesizer backing and spawned a dance hit in 'Heart Skip Too Many Beats', which was co-written and performed with Dan Hartman.
