This collection is an exhaustive three-disc exploration of the greatest hits released by Michael Jackson and his familyband while they were on the Motown label. While factoring in such hits as 'ABC', 'I Want You Back' and 'Rockin' Robin' (one of the most famous appearances of an adolescent MichaelJackson's blistering lead vocals), this release also delvesdeeper and lets audiences see a more mature side to Michaeland his brothers. Though never overly serious, songs like 'Lookin' Through The Windows' and 'Goin' Back To Indiana' show that the group were musically very adept and a consummately professional act.

Newly remastered and recompiled for 2000, this version of the Jackson 5's Anthology takes the place of the original double-CD set, which was first issued on LP back in 1976. The main difference is that where the first Anthology featured some of Michael and Jermaine's earliest solo hits, this one is devoted exclusively to Jackson 5 material, with a little more detail added to the pictures of their early pop-soul years and their later disco-influenced work. All of the group's charting singles are here, as well as important B-sides and album tracks, including several songs that have never previously appeared on CD. Later hits like "Dancing Machine" and "Hum Along and Dance" are also presented in their full-length LP versions.

You could hardly get hotter than Michael Jackson in the summer of 1983. Thriller was an almost permanent fixture in the Top 10, Off the Wall was also hovering somewhere in the charts every week, and he had even charted with a storybook telling of the tale of E.T. the Extra Terrestrial. Single after single was being released from Thriller, which was on its way to becoming the biggest selling album of all time and even though an album of old Motown material had been released only two years previously, BMG Direct Marketing licensed all the hits from the '70s Motown days and put together an album of songs featuring both Michael Jackson as a solo artist and the Jackson 5 with, of course, Michael taking lead singing duties.
