Thrash Metal

Omission is a thrash band from Spain that released their album ‘Thrash Metal Is Violence’ in 2009 by themselves and were picked up by Xtreem Music based on that album. Compared to the debut the production on ‘Merciless Jaws From Hell’ is much better and fans of this type of extreme thrash metal should appeal to this album.

Folk singer-songwriter Bruce Cockburn often wrote about his Christian faith in the 70s, but in a non-preachy way that emphasised his care for fellow humankind. His songs became more political in the 80s, most notably when he released the angry "If I Had A Rocket Launcher" after visiting a Guatamalan refugee camp on behalf of Oxfam. Though Cockburn has always been popular in his native Canada - he was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 2001 - he has struggled to find an audience elsewhere, peaking with a No.21 placing in the US Hot 100 with 1979 single "Wondering Where The Lions…

Eddie Lockjaw Davis swings way out here – working in that cool cooking mode from the 50s, with organist Shirley Scott a very important partner on the date! The group's got a larger sound than usual – thanks to the addition of trombonist Steve Pullman – a player we don't know much, but who shifts the groove nicely away from some of Davis' more staid cookbook albums. Rhythm is by George Duvivier on bass and Arthur Edgehill on drums – and titles include "Bahia", "Foxy", "Bingo Domingo", and "Can't Get Out Of This Mood".

Over the 90-year history of sound film, there have been a handful of instances where a director and a composer have formed a longtime partnership that resulted in a series of classical scores, creating music that stands the test of time. None, however, have been as long or as fruitful as the 43-year collaboration of Steven Spielberg and John Williams. None have encompassed such a wide range of subject matter or, more significantly, have had such an enormous impact on worldwide popular culture.

After getting his start in television in the late '50s, Williams worked more steadily on feature films by the early '70s.

I hope I'm not the only person out there who's been patiently-but-impatiently awaiting Orbs' sophomore album after the successful experimentation employed on their initial release, Asleep Next to Science. The dynamic, playful, and childhood, science, and space-centered album dissolved the "supergroup" albatross immediately conferred upon the band created by Dan Briggs (Between the Buried and Me), Adam Fisher (Fear Before), and Ashley Ellyllon (Abigail Williams, Cradle of Filth) and turned it into something beautiful - a grandiose prog rock album with delightfully strange lyrics.

Now why do you suppose they called him '"Lockjaw"'? Just listen. Eddie Davis based much of his style on the tough extremities of Ben Webster's gritty gutbucket tenor sax. Picking up where Ben left off, Jaws would growl, shriek and rock in ways that landed him on the cusp between bebop and rhythm & blues. Over many years he developed into a mature performer who was capable of great subtleties. We are fortunate to have this opportunity to hear his earliest recordings as a leader. Some of this stuff is startling. "Surgery," a smooth, searching, walking blues, exists in the same harmonic/thematic realm as Boyd Raeburn's quirky study for big band, "Tonsillectomy." The piece called "Lockjaw" is more of a muscle tussle, and "Afternoon in a Doghouse" is a simple finger-pop bop groove…
