Henri Crolla (1920-1960) was an Italian jazz guitarist and film composer. Born in Naples, Campania, Italy, to a family of itinerant Neapolitan musicians, he moved with his family to Porte de Choisy in France in 1922 following the rise of fascism in Italy. One of his neighbours was a young Django Reinhardt, with whose family he became close. He also put to music many poems from Prévert's Paroles with Joseph Kosma.

Grandmono proudly presents our new EP in collaboration with the Metropole Orchestra; MO x Caro Emerald by Grandmono. The EP has been recorded entirely with vintage studio equipment at Electric Monkey Studio in Amsterdam. Part of the sound is rare mixing desk previously owned by Ennio Morricone. Not a coincidence, the sound of the EP is inspired by 60’s cinema – combining the lush sound of the very skilled Metropole Orkest (you don’t win Grammy’s for nothing) and the smokey, warm sound of what we do. Reminiscence of lush orchestras, Italian cinema, French soundtracks, even some exotica – it’s all there. The result is exquisite if we may say so ourselves, but you be the judge of that.

Echoes of Tangerine Dream, Lalo Schifrin, Deep Purple, John Barry, Jean-Michel Jarre, Italian Cinema, Gene Krupa, 70’s Library Music, Herbie Hancock are but a few of the memories “COBOL” will evoke…but it’s much more than that. 20 years ago I cut brilliant code in a tiny office cubical to the sounds of ZTT Records, Yello, and The James Taylor Quartet, so when Apollo suggested fusing his funk-soul-jazz-rock style with early 80s electronic new wave and the inspired elegance and beauty of the preeminent computer language how could I say anything but “Yes!”?

La Perla is well known for being the gold standard in sophisticated lingerie. Its reputation defines exclusive, elite and specialized; ultra chic. So, composing music that encompasses all this is no small task, but one that Italian DJ and composer Danilo Venturi and production partner Alberto Benati were willing to take on. The result of their effort is a blend of 60's Italian cinema jazz and smooth, classic lounge, with infections of R&B influenced rhythms and the sleekness of modern electronic music composition. Fans of Koop, Nicola Conte, Gerardo Frisina, The Five Corners Quintet, Gotan Project or Dimitri From Paris should listen up. properlychilled.com
