Jamaica's national motto, 'Out Of Many One People', could well be applied to the music that shaped the island's national sound, with modern reggae the result of many different musical forms coalescing to form a wonderfully unique 'one'. After the 1992 collaboration of film composer John Williams with one of the world's finest violinists, Itzhak Perlman, on the score for Steven Spielberg's Holocaust epic Schindler's List, the duo reunited in 1996 to create one more masterpiece, a collection of famous film scores presented in new arrangements that are centered around Perlman's violin. No much to say. Itzhak is a musical genius and you'd swear his violin really is singing as it mourns, soars, and romances its way through the songs. I'm out of adjectives to describe this treasured CD. Enjoy a valuable gem.

Agnes of God is a 1985 American film starring Jane Fonda, Anne Bancroft and Meg Tilly, about a novice nun who gives birth and insists that the dead child was the result of a virgin conception. A psychiatrist (Fonda) and the mother superior (Bancroft) of the convent clash during the resulting investigation. It was adapted by John Pielmeier from his own play of the same name, and directed by Norman Jewison. The film was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Actress in a Leading Role (Bancroft), Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Tilly) and Best Music, Original Score.

Classical / Film Score

For many their first encounter with classical music will be through its use in films and this collection makes a fantastic entry point to this rich and diverse world.
