Peter Green was regarded by some fans as the greatest white blues guitarist ever, Eric Clapton notwithstanding. Born Peter Greenbaum but calling himself Peter Green by the age of 15, he grew up in London's working-class East End. Green's early musical influences were Hank Marvin of the Shadows, Muddy Waters, B.B. King, Freddie King, and traditional Jewish music. He originally played bass before being invited in 1966 by keyboardist Peter Bardens to play lead in the Peter B's, whose drummer was a lanky chap named Mick Fleetwood. The 19-year-old Green was with Bardens just three months before joining John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, whose rapidly shifting personnel included bassist John McVie and drummer Aynsley Dunbar.

Miller Anderson has played on some of the greatest stages in the world with some of the biggest acts. He was at Woodstock as the Singer/guitarist with The Keef Hartley Band, playing just before Santana. Sadly, due to a bad managerial decision, the Hartley Band's performance was not filmed. He made five albums with Hartley before leaving to release his first solo project 'Bright City' followed by 'Hemlock' which also became the name of his new band. A few years later Miller joined forces with Kim Simmonds and Stan Webb as Savoy Brown releasing one album 'The Boogie Brothers'. It was this line up that toured all over the United States with Deep Purple and selling out Madison Square Gardens. Over the next few years he played with Mountain, The Dukes, T Rex, The Donovan Band and was a member of The Spencer Davis Group for over fifteen years.

Pop the champagne: Ruf Records is 20. A lot has changed in rock 'n' roll since 1994. We've seen a thousand bands rise and fall. We've watched a hundred rock scenes blow up and burn out. All the while, Ruf has steadily evolved, from its roots as one man's vision, to the most respected blues/rock label around, with a roll-call of talent to top any independent on the planet. And if that sounds like a bold statement, you're holding the proof in your hands… Of course, Thomas Ruf didn't expect any of those accolades back in 1994.

Livin Blues are without doubt the greatest Blues Band to come out of Holland, and to be honest, they deserved greater acclaim…

Crawling Up A Hill is a fascinating document of a genre that, though relatively short-lived, would have a seismic influence on the subsequent development of rock music.

Considering Mountain stole the show at Woodstock, Leslie West seems very underrated as a guitarist today, which is quite strange, cos guitarists only get better! Just looking through the guest musician's listing, we have Joe Lynn Turner on some vocals, Leo Lyons (Ten Years After) on bass, Bernard Purdie on drums, and Savoy Brown's Kim Simmonds on some of the guitar. Other than this, the songs are excellent and mostly original compositions, and the versions of Otis Redding's Respect and the standard, Stormy Monday, are in a class of their own. With no pun intended, Leslie West is up there with the big boys, and should be mentioned on the same breath as Clapton, Beck, Page, Hendrix et-all.
