Pioneers, philosophers, trailblazers, in short: prophets always have to assemble their flocks abroad before they find due recognition in their homelands. This also applies to the German art form KMFDM. Whether in the US, Japan, Australia or elsewhere - for over a quarter of a century they are the epitome and synonym for a musical style of the harder variety: Industrial Rock. Now KMFDM are preparing to release their first new studio album in over 3 years entitled "HELL YEAH" on August 18th via earMUSIC. An EP, "YEAH!" was released earlier to whet fans appetite and features some great remixes. Lead single HELL YEAH is an instant KMFDM classic with its ultra-heavy beat and Sascha Konietzko s trademark cynical lyrics. The album ranges from songs that are sometimes political "FAKE NEWS", "TOTAL STATE MACHINE" to more techno/dance tracks "MURDER MY HEART" and "Rx 4 THE DAMNED" diverse like the band itself, the songs are sometimes political, sometimes with ironic lyrics and an underlying humorous edge but 100% KMFDM.

Trends may come and go, but you can always count on KMFDM to unleash a new album's worth of hate-heavy industrial tunes every few years. Twenty-one years after their initial formation, the German group still has no problem unleashing the venom against electro beats, as evidenced by 2005's Hau Ruck. With tracks that can be compared to such renowned industrial names as Nine Inch Nails, Ministry, and Rammstein, it's understandable for the uninitiated to assume that KMFDM is just following in the footsteps of others.

KMFDM's final album starts out with a bitter goodbye on the title track, and the usual mechanical sonic assault continues on tracks like "Witness," the Kraftwerk-inspired "R.U.OK?," and "Full Worm Garden." Some songs are more club/dance than industrial; "Today" depicts a calmer eye before "Rubicon" and "Bereit" resume the high energy and aggressive stormy ambience that are the band's trademark. KMFDM sound smoother yet maintain their emotive mayhem in all its glory. ~Allmusic

This is a very unique album by KMFDM because it's like they are transitioning into the band that they are today but also delve into different genres like reggae, rap to a certain extent, and there is definitely a punk sensibility to this album. The metal/hard-rock roots also start to become more defined and blended with the industrial/electronic dance sound.

By 1997, KMFDM had become a dependable, prolific source for tightly produced, mostly top-notch heavy industrial music. To their great credit, the band never betrayed its countercultural ideals, becoming an independent empire without making any concessions to the mainstream. However, some of the band's ideas were getting a bit repetitive after nine albums. This self-titled effort (also known as Symbols, like Led Zeppelin's fourth album) was released during the "next big thing" hype of electronica, and finds the band peeling away some of its heavy guitars in favor of a more dance-oriented sound (which is where the band really started, anyway).

Pioneers, philosophers, trailblazers, in short: prophets always have to assemble their flocks abroad before they find due recognition in their homelands. This also applies to the German art form KMFDM. Whether in the US, Japan, Australia or elsewhere (where they sold hundred thousands of records and embarked on various sold out tours) - for over a quarter of a century they are the epitome and synonym for a musical style of the harder variety: Industrial Rock. KMFDM pioneered the crossover between techno/dance and heavy metal, creating their unique sound and were one of the first bands to bring Industrial Rock to mainstream.

KMFDM's greatest hits package is quite complete – it includes "Juke Joint Jezebel," "Rip the System!," the Ministry-ish "A Drug Against War," "Light," "Don't Blow Your Top" and "Godlike-Doglike." KMFDM's songs have always spoken about the unspeakable (something Nine Inch Nails and Tool would take even further), and their music and lyrics feed off of each other to create an energetic-yet-squeamish, invigorating-but-uncomfortable sound. To really get an idea how they evolved, though, start with the last track (from their first album) and work forward: their political and social commentary, as well as their emotional intensity, hasn't changed, although their energy level increased in the '90s as industrial exploded.

XTORT doesn't sound markedly different than KMFDM's other releases – there are still the bruising mechanical drum beats and numbingly drilling guitars, combined with barked vocals. What's noticeable about XTORT – their first album since industrial broke into the Top 40 with Nine Inch Nails' The Downward Spiral – is how the band made no concessions to the pop/rock mainstream whatsoever. They are still the same grimy, dank heavy dance band they were in the '80s. For some listeners, that means they're keeping the flame burning and, to a certain extent, they'd be right – KMFDM sounds as good as they ever have, and several tracks rank among their best.

"Yeah!" is an upcoming 5-track extended play from German Industrial band KMFDM, slated to be released on June 23rd, 2017. However this project is just a sampling that will drop ahead of their twentieth studio album "Hell Yeah!" which can be expected out sometime in August.
