Kaleidoscope was an american psychedelic band which covered a range of influences from country to folk to blues to jazz to acid rock to eastern ragas and points in between. They released four albums and then members ended up in other bands and session work, most notably David Lindley and Chris Darrow. Jimmy Page often called Kaleidoscope his favorite band of all time.

Parties seeking a more or less comprehensive assessment of Kaleidoscope's mid- to late-'60s Epic Records output are encouraged to locate 2004's Beacon from Mars & Other Psychedelic Side Trips compilation. As might be surmised by the name of this package, the bulk of the material originally came from the Side Trips (1967), A Beacon from Mars (1967), Incredible Kaleidoscope (1969), and Bernice (1970) long-players.

From Home to Home is quite similar to the albums this group had put out in the late '60s as the Kaleidoscope (the British Kaleidoscope, not to be confused with the American band of the same name). In fact, it's similar enough to the Kaleidoscope records to make one wonder why they bothered to change their name. Perhaps there is more polish and sophistication in the production, and a slightly heavier rock sound. But the focus is still gentle, story-like songs with debts to both late-'60s Pink Floyd and late-'60s Beatles, though the songs are not nearly as memorable as the work by those bands, and there is not nearly as much balance between chipper and somber material as the Beatles and Pink Floyd mustered.

It's a little surprising that a cult band like Kaleidoscope would get honored with an all-out three-CD set, considering the limited market. But here it is, and it certainly leaves no stone unturned, including the entire recorded output of the band while they were on Epic. That essentially covers the entire period of interest to most fans, spanning the band's formation to their breakup in the early '70s (though they subsequently reunited for some albums that aren't represented here). In addition to everything from their albums Side Trips, A Beacon from Mars, Incredible, and Bernice, it has quite a few tracks that only showed up on non-LP singles or as outtakes on posthumous compilations.

The progressive supergroup featuring Neal Morse (ex-Spock's Beard), Mike Portnoy (The Winery Dogs, ex-Dream Theater), Roine Stolt (The Flower Kings) and Pete Trewavas (Marillion) are back with their new studio album “Kaleidoscope”! There are points during the journey through “Kaleidoscope” when the listener will be reminded of artists like Yes, early Genesis, and even Styx, but in the end the album is distinctly TRANSATLANTIC before it can be compared to anyone else. Easily the earliest highlight in progressive music in 2014!

Kaleidoscope (originally The Kaleidoscope) was an American psychedelic folk and ethnic band who recorded 4 albums and several singles for Epic Records between 1966 and 1970. The band recorded their third album, Incredible! Kaleidoscope, in 1968. It featured "Seven-Ate Sweet", a long progressive instrumental piece in 7/8 time signature which they had been playing live since the early days of the group. The album reached #139 on Billboard in 1969, the only Kaleidoscope album to chart.

The American (at the time this name was used too by UK, French & Mexican bands) was one of the best instrumental forces ever. Leaded by multinstrumentalists and they created a mixed bag of worldwide musical elements (Middle Eastern, North African, Indian, East Asian & Mid Europe) and Americana (Ragtime, Country, Bluegrass, Jazz, Blues, Cajun) in a psychedelic context pre-dating by many years the World Music concept. This 3 CD set collects all their output for Epic between 1967 and 1970 including several non-album tracks. The first 3 disc are their best: . The fourth album is not as good, they abandoned the exotic component of their sound to make a straight Rock album, but it's a true rarity because is available on CD for the first time. A special mention for 2 tracks: , a long acoustic jam recorded in just one take and the trippy where David Lindley plays an awesome guitar part; the way this guy controls the feedback and the "hanging" notes may be put on envy Jimi Hendrix and Jeff Beck themselves.
