The year 1965 suffered an unexpected detour in pop culture: starting the explosion of psychedelia and the influence of Bob Dylan's poetry, rock, as an aesthetic movement, wanted to earn the recognition that genres such as jazz or classical music had. Due to this, many virtuoso performers and complex arrangements and improvisation were incorporated to rock's catalog. That's how psychedelic rock and then progressive rock came to be. Meanwhile in Germany, and influenced by both the English rock and by German avant-garde artists such as Karlheinz Stockhausen, a new way of understand rock music was born, with poetry inspired by outer space and a remarkable use of electronics and experimentation. In the late '60s and early '70s, many bands were making, or caught in, the transition between psychedelia and hard rock. This comp has 20 cuts from that mini-genre's heyday, most of them from quite obscure bands and releases, though a few actually made a modest commercial impact. Certainly SRC (represented by the "Up All Night" title track) are fairly well remembered and fairly well regarded, as to different extents are a few other acts here, like Damnation of Adam Blessing, the Litter, and Sir Lord Baltimore. Most of these fellas (and they certainly are all fellas, likely strutting their pretty macho-oriented stuff to a largely male audience as well) won't be familiar to many collectors, however, though some had connections to famous figures like Rick Derringer, Frijid Pink, Johnny Winter, Eddie Kramer, Shadow Morton, Mountain, and Frank Zappa.

Famed for his hit single ‘Fire’, The Crazy World of Arthur Brown and his follow up band Kingdome Come, Dance was Brown’s first album in nearly two years and saw him form a new band and adopt a more soulful side to his unique musical style. The album featured notable covers of ‘We’ve Got to Get Out of This Place’ and ‘Out of Time’, along with nine original compositions. Unavailable for some years, this new Esoteric Recordings’ edition has been newly remastered and expanded to include six previously unreleased bonus tracks, recorded by Arthur Brown and his band for the BBC radio In Concert series in April 1975.
