Kompakt

Britain's The Orb – aka Alex Paterson and Thomas Fehlmann are one of the most influential electronic acts to grace Kompakt. Okie Dokie It's The Orb On Kompakt is the duo's thirteenth album, and it proves to be a sonic collage of intensive, lovingly-conjured quiet ambience. The first half of Okie Dokie showcases right up front The Orb's love for minimal techno as still as water and schaffel/shuffle, while the second half is reserved for the classic Orb-ish ancestral domain of trance-inducing, pulsating ambience. There are wonderful guest appearances by Schneider TM and Kompakt's ambient-guru Ulf Lohmann. The Orb have been working exclusively with Kompakt since 2002 after a series of electrifying singles.

Absurd title aside, Okie Dokie marks the Orb's absolute absorption into Cologne's Kompakt label, following a series of 12" releases and compilation appearances dating back to late 2002. The principal factor is Thomas Fehlmann, a longtime associate and Kompakt elder statesman whose presence is felt on every track, consequently inhibiting Alex Paterson's whimsical impulses. There are no incongruous vocal appearances, silly spoken bits, or lumbering dubwise squibs.

STORMDRUM all started when producer NICK PHOENIX decided to go down to the Record Plant in Los Angeles to record some big film grooves for movie trailers he was working on. He hired some the best percussionists in the world (Tal Bergman, Richie Garcia, Michito Sanchez), and filled up Studio A with hundreds of drums. The Record Plant said they had never seen anything like it. After a complex setup, they were ready to roll. Everything was recorded through Neuman mics into an SSL Console to 2 inch analog tape and later transfered to 24 bit, 88.2 digital. Now, after years of recording, editing, and programming, STORMDRUM has arrived!
