Sylvain Luc (born 7 April 1965) is a French jazz guitarist. He tours regularly but rarely appears in high-profile jazz festivals. He is particularly attracted to duets, but he has also been seen in trios (his own, plus Trio Sud, and on tour in 2009 with Steve Gadd and Richard Bona) and rarely with larger groups. His best-known works are the two duet albums with Biréli Lagrène, with whom he has toured many times.

A rare gem from Zoot Sims – very different than any of his other albums! The session features Zoot blowing over large backings arranged and conducted by Gary McFarland, a bit in the older Verve "with strings" mode, but also sparkling with a lot of the newer elements that McFarland was bringing to his work at the time. The approach is both light and lush at the same time – and Zoot's got a tone and approach that we've never heard on any other record, making the whole album an incredible treat that we'd rank up there with Stan Getz's experiments of the same type from the 60s. Titles include "I Wish I Knew", "Does The Sun Really Shine On The Moon", "Once We Loved", "Old Folks", "September Song", "Stella By Starlight", and "Once I Could Have Loved".

A 4 disc set by Mercury Records all jazz vocal classics with some outstanding vocalists. Sarah Vaughan, Dinah Washington, Patti Page, Helen Merrill, Shirley Horn, Chet Baker, Nina Simone, Louis Armstrong, Abbey Lincoln, Oscar Peterson, Ernestine Anderson, Thelma Grayson, Morgana King and a few others, all have more than a few numbers on the 4 discs, all accompanied by the big band orchestras that were popular back then, great horns, stand up bass. If you don't recognize more than a few of these songs, even done by others, you my friend have been living under a rock or perhaps just listening to rock. "Take the A Train', 'Satin Doll', 'I Get A Kick Out of You', 'Mame', 'Stardust', 'The Man I Love', 'Oh Lady Be Good', 'See See Ryder, 'Honeysuckle Rose', 'Love for Sale', 'Willow Weep for Me', "Ain't Misbehavin', 'Sweet Lorraine', 'Frankie & Johnny', 'Taking a Chance on Love', 'Sweet Georgia Brown', 'Unforgettable', 'Mack the Knife', just a few of the 100 vocal classics on these discs. This collection on the U.K.'s Soul Brother imprint is a very compelling look at a big slice of Freddie Hubbard's long career as a leader, and one that gets ignored for the most part. Hubbard recorded over 20 records between Backlash, his Atlantic debut in 1966, and Ride Like the Wind for Elektra in 1982, with lengthy stops at Columbia and CTI (as well some straight hard bop and post-bop outings for labels Fantasy and Pablo). In many cases, some of these original recordings were not only disregarded by more traditional jazzheads, they were regarded with outright hostility. It didn't matter to Hubbard, however, because at the time, these were among his best-selling albums and connected with the public deeply.
