Expanded release of beautiful score for Adrian Lyne romantic drama Indecent Proposal, starring Robert Redford, Demi Moore, Woody Harrelson makes wonderful premiere. 1993 album offered numerous songs heard in film plus 26-minute medley of score highlights in one single track. New Intrada score-only CD features 74 minutes of rich, sumptuous Barry. Movie chronicles intriguing offer by Redford of one million dollars for single night with Moore, wife of Harrelson. Young happily-married couple see it as opportunity to build their dream house but story soon ventures much deeper. Love, jealousy, heartbreak all play roles. John Barry underlines all in signature 90's "nostalgia" style. Main theme is gorgeous albeit sad-tinged melody for piano, strings. Harmonies both major, minor play important role throughout. Two additional secondary themes further enrich haunting, sensual score. Romantic film scoring with hint of sadness became hallmark of Barry's final decade of composing. Indecent Proposal remains one of his most beautiful efforts!

Music is feminine. And it always has been, whether in Italian, Germanand French. Viva la musica. Die Musik. Lamusique. And in jazz? During the 20th century female musicians lives were lived in the shadows. Lil Hardin, for example, wrote compositions like “Struttin‘ With Some Barbecue”, and yet while her husband Louis Armstrong was becoming famous, she was hardly noticed at all. She was, as she described it later, “standing at the bottom of the ladder holding it and watching him climb.” Since then, however, things have moved on. Progress may be slow, but things are definitely changing. In jazz, today the female element has gone way beyond just the “girl singer with a band”. It is not only quite normal for a woman to be playing electric guitar, bass, drums or trumpet, we now have musicians such as Terri Lyne Carrington serving as important role models.

Leala Cyr is fast becoming one of the most sought-after jazz vocalists of her generation. With a unique and deft ability for stunning vocal improvisation as well as being a trumpet player with a warm, golden tone, she is a rare “double threat.” Growing up in the small town of Pulaski, Wisconsin, Cyr was lucky to have been introduced to a wonderful school music program. Beginning her concentration on the trumpet, Leala quickly advanced and began to take music more seriously. Upon entering the top jazz band in her high school, Cyr also became the band’s vocalist and eventually was featured as a trumpet and vocal soloist at the prestigious Essentially Ellington Competition at the Lincoln Center in New York City.
