Buster Williams leads a trio with pianist Kenny Barron and drummer Lenny White in this live concert that was held as a benefit for Cystic Fibrosis Research, Inc. Williams and Barron had worked together on many occasions prior to this date, appearing on each others' albums and working together in the quartet Sphere, while White is equally at home in mainstream jazz and fusion, having worked with numerous leaders and recording CDs of his own. The introspective interpretation of Thelonious Monk's "We See" is a solid opener, giving equal time to feature all three musicians. Williams introduces "Concierto de Aranjuez" unaccompanied, giving it a particularly haunting flavor with his thick tone. Barron contributed two originals, including the lovely "Song for Abdullah" and the moving "Nikara's Song." The trio wraps the concert with a driving interpretation of "The Surrey with the Fringe on Top." Strangely, neither the recording date or the performance venue is listed anywhere in the extensive liner notes to this rewarding CD.
