Now, The Coronas are bringing the Festival home to Dublin this Christmas. As the band themselves explain, “No matter how busy we’ve been or even when we lived abroad, Dublin at Christmas has always been home for us. This year we want to do something slightly different: we want to play the venues where we honed our sound as a young band, together with some great Dublin venues that we’ve never gotten to play before.”

The “moment” in question occurred in late 1977; the event was the Rahsaan Roland Kirk Memorial Jazz Festival at San Francisco’s Keystone Korner. The Cedar Walton Quartet, co-headlining with Leon Thomas and Bobby Hutcherson, were joined by Walton’s old Jazz Messengers compatriot Freddie Hubbard, returning to a straight-ahead context in the wake of the trumpeter’s controversial plunge into jazz-funk fusion.

THE FINEST PERFORMANCE FROM THE WHO’s TOMMY TOUR • Capturing the third night of a weeklong engagement by The Who performing much of their rock opera Tommy - plus a few bonus numbers - at the Fillmore East in New York on October 22nd 1969, this radio broadcast remains among the finest quality recordings available from the band’s 69/70 Tommy Tour. • The Who had been touring in the UK since 5th July ’69, before, briefly, heading to the American east coast for two shows on 12th and 17th of the month – the latter of these being their famous appearance at the Woodstock Festival. But the Who flew straight back to Britain after Woodstock to resume the UK leg of the tour.

INXS wasn't quite there yet with Shabooh Shoobah – which, by the way, has to rank as one of the most annoying titles ever conceived – but at more than one point, they reached some total heights. For the most part, however, Shabooh Shoobah is an example of a talented bunch of performers still finding their own identity. There's a smart, slick punch to the album that suggests late-period Roxy Music crossed with a younger, brasher energy, which perfectly explains the sly grooves of songs like "To Look at You" and "Here Comes." It's all very pleasant and a good listen, with all six performers showing the skill and energy that made their live reputation so strong at the time, but mostly the songs aren't really anything deathless.

It might seem like an unusual move, a double live album. Especially within the scene we are from but the live album was once a staple of most bands career and something we all grew up with in our collection. Pouring over tour dates, gear information and killer live pics. Ok so it's not 'Live After Death' but you can see the attraction and taste the romance involved, right? Fact is though we hadn't planned it, it was basically a happy coincidence, the good people at Bang Your head who took such a risk booking us the first time on a more traditional old school rock festival had us back for the fourth time, gave us a proper headlining set length and happened to mention afterwards that they had a mobile recording device rigged up and ready to go.

sophomore record ‘All Or Nothing’ saw the band team up with the legendary Butch Vig to record in Los Angeles. It achieved Top 20 in both the UK and Germany. In March 2020, The Subways will hit the road with a run of headline dates. Frontman Billy Lunn explains further: “Nearly fifteen years ago, when Young for Eternity was released, Josh and Charlotte were 18 and 19 years old, and I was 20. Touring our debut album was for us an adventurous explosion of excitement, just as every tour since then has been. In 2020, we get to relive that initial excitement when we embark on the Young for Eternity tour to play the album in full. None of us can truly express just how thrilled we are that we get the chance to do this.”

Formed in 1968, Man earned well deserved praise for a series of wonderful albums issued between 1969 and 1976. Their US West Coast influenced sound also gained them a loyal following on the live circuit where their instrumental prowess was given room to shine. Initially enjoying success in Germany, by 1972 Man had begun to enjoy success in Britain and from 1972 they recorded a series of acclaimed sessions and live concerts for BBC Radio One, had a BBC TV documentary made about them and appeared on the influential TV series The Old Grey Whistle Test. With ever changing line-ups throughout the 1970s, Man disbanded in 1976 after a farewell concert at The Roundhouse in London (a location of some of their legendary concerts). They reformed in 1983, appearing at The Reading Festival that year and would go on to record a further series of excellent albums and undertake extensive touring.
