You know something's different from the minute you put the needle on the record (you still do that, right?)… the insistent tempo and playfully production of the Junior Boys' fourth album has a crisp refreshing bounce. As the album progresses the songs showcase just how great a singer Jeremy Greenspan has become. After one spin of the album you come to realize Junior Boys have become a formidable production and arrangement team and It's All True is an epic.

This exemplary recording by songwriters Aram Schefrin, Mike Zager, and singer Genya Ravan was highly experimental in ways that Chicago, Big Brother & the Holding Company, Traffic, and other of their contemporaries wanted to be. Imagine Ronnie Spector leaving the Ronettes to join Blood, Sweat & Tears, and realize the sweet Goldie Zelkowitz from Goldie & the Gingerbreads did just that by reinventing herself here as the great Genya Ravan. The Ravan co-write, "Tightrope," is five-minutes-and-ten-seconds of psychedelic blues-jazz-funk.

This is the fourth volume of Vampi Soul's "R&B Hipshakers" series, featuring 20 terrific dance cuts selected by genre expert Mr Fine Wine, from WFMU's Downtown Soulville. Hold it, hold it - this ain't over yet! I know: The passage of three long years since we last met may have led you to worry I'd abandoned my noble endeavor to unearth all of the mind-bending rhythm and blues in the nearly bottomless King and Federal vaults. But fear not. To paraphrase the immortal words of Titus Turner in 'Hold Your Loving', I'm gonna keep at it till the meatballs bounce!

Miles Davis' concert of February 12, 1964, was originally divided into two LPs, with all of the ballads put on My Funny Valentine. These five lengthy tracks (which include "All of You," "Stella by Starlight," "All Blues," "I Thought About You," and the title cut) put the emphasis on the lyricism of Davis, along with some strong statements from tenor saxophonist George Coleman and freer moments from the young rhythm section of pianist Herbie Hancock, bassist Ron Carter, and drummer Tony Williams.
