Questo volume contiene una raccolta aggiornata di problemi svolti ed ampiamente commentati su argomenti selezionati di Fisica Generale (Meccanica, Termodinamica, Elettricità e Magnetismo). Il volume nasce dall’esperienza didattica decennale maturata dagli autori nell’insegnamento dei corsi di Fisica presso le Facoltà di Ingegneria del Politecnico di Milano. Lo scopo di questa raccolta di problemi è di fornire agli studenti delle Facoltà di Ingegneria e Scienze un valido supporto didattico allo studio della Fisica Generale nell’ambito di un corso di base. I problemi sono raggruppati nelle seguenti aree tematiche: calcolo vettoriale; cinematica e dinamica del punto materiale; lavoro ed energia; dinamica dei sistemi, gravitazione e dinamica del corpo rigido; termometria, calorimetria, primo e secondo principio della termodinamica; elettrostatica del vuoto, nei conduttori e nei mezzi dielettrici; correnti in regime stazionario; campi magnetici stazionari..

I wrote Mount Carmel with the place of my childhood in mind. The neighborhood in which I grew up had only two streets, both of which wound into cul-de-sacs between an interwoven set of barren, gentle hills in Los Peñasquitos, California. Growing up, my mother, who immigrated from Mexico to the United States to marry my father, told me that “Los Peñasquitos” means “the hills with white rocks on them.” Today I am told by the internet that it means “little cliffs.” I spent a lot of time on those little cliffs, kicking through dust as I explored them, watching for rattlesnakes.

This is the 5th recording (the first on Songlines) by Montreal percussionist Gossage’s Other Voices. The group, which he started in 1998 as a vehicle for his compositions, has evolved into one where creation in the moment completes the compositional process. Gossage takes a sculptor’s approach to sound, inspiring his musicians to carve out forms and concepts through structured group improvisations which demonstrate their quick yet thoughtful responses. Combine Braxton’s love of abstruse counterpoint and borderline atonality with Varese’s manner of animating blocks of sound, throw in a wry sense of humor, inject just a dash of chaos – and you get an experimental jazz record that is attractively varied as well as engaging on deeper levels.
