While the U.K.'s Marillion aren't the best-known rock band in the 21st century, they've influenced many acts that followed in their wake, directly or indirectly, from Porcupine Tree and Radiohead to the Pineapple Thief and Gazpacho. They are rightfully credited with having established the neo-prog subgenre, and have explored many types of music over the decades that, thanks to their expert musicianship, have celebrated their long, inventive passages for electric guitars and keyboards.

In 2002 EMI released a box with twelve CD singles by the British progressive rock formation Marillion from 1989 to 1995. It was the second single box of this type. While the first box covered the era of the charismatic singer Fish, the second now includes the story of the no less fascinating successor Steve Hogarth. The 57 pieces in the box, which is now out of print (the twelve CD singles were contained in cardboard boxes with original covers) will be released on April 19, 2013 as a 4-CD box.

Having emerged from the post-new wave scene in Britain and existed as a bridge between the styles of post-punk and progressive rock, Marillion would become the most commercially successful neo-prog band of the 1980s. Marillion's recorded studio output since 1982 is composed of twenty albums and generally regarded in two distinct eras, delineated by the departure of original lead singer Fish in late 1988 and the subsequent arrival of replacement Steve Hogarth in early 1989. The band achieved eight top ten UK albums between 1983 and 1994, including a number one album in 1985 with Misplaced Childhood, and during the period the band were fronted by Fish they had eleven top 40 hits on the UK Singles Chart. They are best known for the 1985 singles "Kayleigh" and "Lavender", which reached numbers two and five respectively, with "Kayleigh" also entering the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States. This new triple CD set focuses on the era during which Fish fronted the band, and features a selection of previously unreleased live broadcast and demo recordings from the years 1979 to 1988.

Originally released in 1991, 'Holidays in Eden' was Marillion's sixth studio album and second with Steve Hogarth on lead vocals. Their previous album and first with Hogarth, 'Season's End' (1989), was written fairly quickly, leaning on a large amount of material already being written prior to Hogarth's arrival. 'Holidays in Eden' brought about a different challenge to the band's new line-up, having to start from scratch with this new dynamic, which they talk about extensively within the book and documentary in the 3CD/Blu-ray deluxe edition.

The album was co-produced by the band and Nick Davis, who also worked with the likes of Genesis, Mike + The Mechanics and more. It spawned three singles; Hooks In You, The Uninvited Guest and Easter which all went on to chart in the UK.

Marillion formed in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, England in 1979. Recording consistently since 1982, their output is generally regarded as comprising two distinct eras, that of original vocalist Fish who helmed the band at arguably their most popular (critically and commercially), and his replacement, former Europeans member Steve Hogarth, who joined the band after Fish's departure in 1989. The band's differing styles between the two vocalists has often been known to divide fans.
