Nik Kershaw - The Works (1989) [Japan] Music

"The Works" is the 4th studio album by the English singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Nik Kershaw. It was released in 1989 and was the last album he created for MCA Records. Kershaw chose the album's title as he felt the album represented "the collected works of Nik Kershaw". He did not release any new solo material until "15 Minutes", 10 years later. The album was not commercially successful, though the lead single "One Step Ahead" reached No. #55 in the UK. "Elisabeth's Eyes", the second and final single, failed to chart altogether.

"What You Need" had taken INXS from college radio into the American Top Five, but there was little indication that the group would follow it with a multi-platinum blockbuster like Kick. Where the follow-ups to "What You Need" made barely a ripple on the pop charts, Kick spun off four Top Ten singles, including the band's only American number one, "Need You Tonight." Kick crystallized all of the band's influences – Stones-y rock & roll, pop, funk, contemporary dance-pop – into a cool, stylish dance/rock hybrid. It was perfectly suited to lead singer Michael Hutchence's feline sexuality, which certainly didn't hurt the band's already inventive videos. But it wasn't just image that provided their breakthrough.

"Results" is the 1989 Liza Minnelli studio album produced by Pet Shop Boys and Julian Mendelsohn. The album was a success in the United Kingdom, where it reached #6 on the UK Albums Chart and was certified Gold by BPI (promoted by the lead single, "Losing My Mind," which reached #6 on the UK Singles Chart). Results also reached #13 in Spain and was certified Gold there. The album was less successful in the United States, peaking only at #128 on the Billboard 200.

"Actually" (stylised as Pet Shop Boys, actually.) is the second studio album by English synth-pop duo Pet Shop Boys. It was released on 7 September 1987 by Parlophone in the United Kingdom and by EMI Manhattan in the United States and Canada. According to Neil Tennant and music historian Wayne Studer, "Actually" loosely critiques Thatcherism, the political zeitgeist of the 1980s, and was recorded in anticipation of Margaret Thatcher's re-election. "Actually" spawned four UK Top 10 singles: the #1 single "It's a Sin", "Rent", "What Have I Done to Deserve This?" - a duet with fellow Parlophone artist Dusty Springfield which peaked at #2 in both the UK and US and led to a resurgence of interest in Springfield's earlier work - and another UK #1 in April 1988 with a remixed version of the song "Heart".

The film stars Peter Dinklage, Haley Bennett, Ben Mendelsohn, Brian Tyree Henry and Kelvin Harrison Jr. The score is written by brothers Bryce and Aaron Dessner from The National with all songs written by Bryce, Aaron, Matt Berninger and Carin Besser.
