MIXED UP With the Disintegration album and its accompanying global Prayer Tour, 1989 had delivered a triumphant end to the 80s, but the first year of the 90s found The Cure unexpectedly unsettled.Determined to keep up the momentum of the band’s ongoing success, but knowing there were internal tensions to address before heading back into the studio, Robert Smith decided on a different course of action; curating an album of the band’s rarer 12” mixes. As work on Mixed Up progressed, Smith realised that some of The Cure’s earlier remixes didn’t stand up to the newer ones.Robert singles out Brian 'Chuck’ New’s dub style remix of Pictures Of You as the one that inspired him to take a more adventurous path. "That mix turned the music on its head, but at the same time left the essential heart of the song intact. As soon as I heard it, I updated the entire Mixed Up plan. My revised ambition was to compile an album that was contemporary without being dated, immediate without being obvious, musically inspiring, rhythmically exciting and sonically great!"

The project was born at the clinics "Berklee College of Music at Umbria Jazz" in Perugia in 2014. The intent is to form an international group and combine different backgrounds and experiences in a project melting genres from jazz to rock while maintaining an European identity.

Back in 1987, Minneapolis rock and roll renegades The Replacements famously stole their Twin/Tone master tapes and threw them in the Mississippi River. A year later while wrapping up work on their Warner Bros. album, Don't Tell A Soul the group absconded with a collection of their reels from Paisley Park studios. Thankfully, those tapes were spared a watery fate, and instead stashed away for decades by the band. Now they’ve been recovered to form the basis of The Replacements first-ever boxed set, Dead Man's Pop.

The group’s final studio album, 2300 Jackson Street, released May 30, 1989. The album’s title track celebrated the Jackson family with musical contributions from all six brothers as well as sisters Janet and Rebbie; it’s Michael’s and Marlon’s only appearance on the album which included other tracks featuring the other four Jackson brothers. 2300 Jackson Street has sold more than half a million copies worldwide.

At Metacritic, which assigns a normalized rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, the album received an average score of 66, which indicates "generally favourable reviews", based on 5 reviews.AllMusic described the album as "ear-poppingly catchy". As of November 2015, Little Mix are the only girl group from the UK to have their first three albums debut in the top fifteen of the Billboard 200. As of August 2016, the album has been certified double platinum in the UK for shipments of over 600,000 units.
