This is CITIES OF THE UNDERWORLD. In metropolises around the world today, skyscrapers loom overhead, traffic blares and vendors hawk their wares. But below hide city upon city, each with its fascinating and unknown history. With infectious enthusiasm and runaway curiosity, and aided by instructive computer animations and maps, host Don Wildman explores these layers — often hundreds of feet down — to transport you underground and back in time. Check your batteries, it's dark down there!
In Season 2, CITIES took you to the darkest recesses of New York, Dublin, Berlin, Moscow, Washington, DC and many more places. You explored the relics of the ancient Maya, the Vikings and the Knights Templar.
Never was a fan of TRIBUTES. But BAT HEAD SOUP is a definite collectors item. It is packed with the best top notch guitarists, Malmsteen, Kotzen, Lynch, Gillis, Zappa ,Beach and more. What makes this a great buy is if you like guitarists, they are all here. Great vocalists, percussion; and production was done with great care to preserve OZZY's song integrity. So you get a lot of classics, but updated to the year 2000. All remain true to the original but each group of artists adds their flavour. Hot tracks: MR.CROWLEY,I DON'T KNOW, PARANOID, SHOT IN THE DARK. And LISA LEOB's 'GOODBYE TO ROMANCE' is great. SHREDDERS and FANS will love it. Shows that a lot of work was done, congrats to Kulick, Bouillet on production.
Dio is a heavy metal band formed by big-voiced Ronnie James Dio, in 1982, after his stint with Black Sabbath. The original line-up was Dio with Vinny Appice (drums), Vivian Campbell (guitar), and Jimmy Bain (bass). Claude Schnell was brought in after the first album so that Dio could be released from keyboard duties to concentrate on vocals.Their first three records were released in yearly succession, starting with 1983's Holy Diver and followed by The Last in Line and Sacred Heart. The first two achieved platinum sales, making those albums their most successful to date.
This is not your bubbe's—or Leo Rosten's—Yiddish. Translator, novelist and performer Wex follows his witty and erudite Born to Kvetch with a colorful, uncensored guide to the idiomatic, use of Yiddish in such areas as madness, fury, and driving, mob Yiddish, insults and thirteen designations for the human rear (in declining order of politeness). Wex is knowledgeable about the biblical and Talmudic roots of some colloquial phrases; for example, he points out that tukhes (ass as he translates it) may be derived from Tuhkhes, one of the places where the Israelites sojourned on their way from Egypt to the Promised Land. While most of Wex's discussions of words and phrases are brief, he provides lengthier sections on five key, highly nuanced Yiddish words: nu (Well?), shoyn (already, right away), epes (something, somewhat), takeh (precisely) and nebakh (alas). Wex's advice on the complex usage of these words can help even the greenest Yiddish speaker. The book could have given more attention to regional dialects and there are a few organizational quirks. Still, Wex offers both fun and instruction for the non-maven.
