Circles Around the Sun’s third full-length studio album, a self-titled, seven track collection, marks the final recordings of founding member and guitarist Neal Casal. The sessions were tracked at legendary recording engineer Jim Scott’s Southern California studio just one week prior to Casal tragically taking his own life. In a note left behind by Casal, he requested that the album be completed and for the band to continue in his absence. CATS surviving members keyboardist Adam MacDougall, bassist Dan Horne and drummer Mark Levy honored those wishes, making a decision to finish the album and to move forward as a band.
In 2013, singer and songwriter Todd Snider formed Hard Working Americans, a roots rock/jam band supergroup featuring musicians who'd previously worked with Widespread Panic, Col. Bruce Hampton, Ryan Adams, Chris Robinson, Great American Taxi, and others. For their first album, Hard Working Americans recorded a batch of songs about work from other artists, but Rest in Chaos is their first full-length set of original material. Mixing humor with pointed social satire, Rest in Chaos finds Snider and his group tackling both darker moods and high-spirited rock.
Recorded March 1st 2020, a mere fortnight before the world of live rock and roll seemed to stop in its tracks. GospelbeacH concluded a three week tour through Spain, Scandinavia and England while the news of a global pandemic loomed. The final night was booked as an "acoustic" show at the bands favorite pub, The Betsey Trotwood in London. The Betsey is where GospelbeacH recorded Another Winter Alive in 2017 as well as the site of London's Neal Casal tribute just months earlier. Neal's vibe and everyone's spirits were riding high in the warmth of the packed pub.
Working at a whiplash speed that seems alien in the 21st century, when bands are pressured to work on three-year album cycles in a digital world when everything exists in an ever-present now, the Chris Robinson Brotherhood are prolific in a way that belies their blissed-out vibes. Barefoot in the Head is the band's fifth album of original material, arriving in a calendar year that also includes another studio album (Anyway You Love, We Know How You Feel, which appeared just about a year prior to Barefoot), a half-hour studio EP (If You Lived Here, You Would Be Home by Now), and a live LP (Betty's Self-Rising Southern Blends, Vol. 3).
