Roberto Negro is one of the key figures of Tricollectif, a movement of particularly active French musicians. A graduate of the Conservatoire de Chambéry, Roberto Negro took classes with Benoît Delbecq, the pianist of Kartet. It is part of an impressive number of formations from this collective off the beaten track: La Scala, quartet very oriented contemporary classical music, with Théo Ceccaldi (vl), his brother Valentin (cello) and Adrien Chenebault (dm); Garibaldi Plop with Valentin Ceccaldi and Sylvain Darrifourcq (dm); Kimono with Christophe Monniot (as); Loving Suite for Birdy So ​​with Elise Caron (voc) and a string quintet but also Les Metanuits, duet with Emile Parisien dedicated to G. Ligeti's quartets.

Considering how Private Energy positively beamed thanks to radiant songs like "It's My Brown Skin" and "Young, Latin and Proud," the title of Helado Negro's sixth album could come as a surprise. However, on This Is How You Smile, Roberto Carlos Lange finds ways to sustain a sense of identity, family, and love when that energy runs low. For these strong yet tender songs, Lange drew inspiration from Jamaica Kincaid's short story "Girl," in which an immigrant mother gives her daughter instructions on how to survive and thrive in a world that wasn't made for her.

Negro Work Songs And Calls is a 1977 collection of songs a negro man used to sing while on the job, either to himself or to one another to make sure the job gets done but to clear their sanity from the power of the property overseer. A part of The Library Of Congress Archive Of Folk Culture, this was reissued in 1999 by Rounder.

JN also originated some new music in 2019 under the aliases of Mistura, Doug Willis and Lakeshore Commission which are also included. Add to this remixes of ZR classics from Grant Nelson, Crakazat and Dr Packer.

The Z Records crew is off to the White Isle of Ibiza and they want us to dance along at home - hence this fittingly summery selection of celebratory disco and house gems. There are naturally plenty of recent label highlights (see the cuts from Crackazat and JKriv & Adeline) and a swathe of fine tracks and revisions from boss man Joey Negro. Amongst the many highlights you'll find the celebratory disco brilliance of Bob Sinclar, Dimitri From Paris and Byron Stingily's "Love Is The Answer", the boogie/house/soul fusion of Opolopo's colourful revision of "Searching" by Roberto De Carlo and Dyanna Fearon, the soulful house sweetness of Cookie's "Best Part of Me (Unreleased Original Mix)", and Faze Action's epic, solo-laden, jazz-funk style re-make of Raven Maize classic "Forever Together".

Given his credentials and track record, it's unsurprising that original disco and boogie artists are willing to let Joey Negro play around with their biggest hits. His first stab at this kind of multi-track remix, 2014's Remixed With Love, was such a success that he's decided to unleash another swathe of revisions over two vinyl double-packs. This edition features some killer reworks, including a sublime, on-point rearrangement of Gwen McRae's "Keep The Fire Burning" and a rolling, dubbed-out version of Grace Jones' "Pull Up To The Bumper" that rivals Larry Levan's classic remix. The veteran producer also successfully turns Pockets' "Come Go With Me" into a classic soulful house rub, and pushes Thelma Houston's "I'm Here Again" further towards disco anthem territory.

40 years later I still hear plenty of sample tracks based around disco records but what I dont come across much of is actual original new material made to the disco blueprint. - Joey Negro Its hard to find enough superlatives to describe just how influential and prolific Dave Lee, aka Joey Negro, has been over the last three decades.
