Ritmi incalzanti, produzione che strizza l'occhio al mondo dell'elettronica, ritornelli cantabili e radiofonici, atmosfere vivaci: "Mi hai fatto fare tardi", la canzone scelta come singolo apripista, rappresenta bene i colori musicali e il mood di "Modern art", quarto album in studio della cantautrice piacentina. Le differenze rispetto al precedente, "Frasi & fumo", si sentono: quel disco, prodotto da Mauro Pagani, era un omaggio alla musica nera e alla tradizione italiana anni '60 e '70, classico e molto suonato. "Modern art", invece, è un disco urbano e tropicale, come Nina Zilli ha ripetuto nelle varie interviste: se "Frasi & fumo" te lo immaginavi suonato in uno di quei club con tavolinetti, tavoli da biliardo e un piccolo palco sullo sfondo, questo nuovo disco te lo immagini suonato su una spiaggia di Kingston all'ora del tramonto.

Nina Simone (English Nina Simone, real name Eunice Kathleen Waymon, English Eunice Kathleen Waymon, February 21, 1933 — April 21, 2003) was an American singer, pianist, composer, arranger. She adhered to the jazz tradition, but used a variety of performed material, combined jazz, soul, pop, gospel and blues, recorded songs with a large orchestra.

Compiled from her RCA years of the late 1960s and early 1970s, this 16-track collection of Nina Simone performances includes a dozen unreleased songs, along with "Sunday in Savannah," "Why (The King of Love Is Dead)" and "Mississippi Goddam," recorded the night following the murder of Martin Luther King, Jr.

This former dancer is on stage since she’s 14 and it shows everytime she hits a stage. She started as a classical dancer, performed with the Lyric Company of France, even started a lyrical carreer when they found out she could sing and pretty well: she was a Soprano Colorature for some years but did not find her real way in it and decides to become a Country Singer while living in Texas for a while…Her adventures lead her to New Orleans where she found her real satisfaction in Blues as riding Harley, whiskey and cigarettes shaped her voice for this kind of music.

To accompany the release of the documentary on the life of singer and jazz musician Nina Simone, What Happened, Miss Simone times ?, a disk has been created in parallel. Nina Simone was one of the most gifted vocalists of her generation, and also one of the most eclectic. Simone was a singer, pianist, and songwriter who bent genres to her will rather than allowing herself to be confined by their boundaries; her work swung back and forth between jazz, blues, soul, classical, R&B, pop, gospel, and world music, with passion, emotional honesty, and a strong grasp of technique as the constants of her musical career.
