Soul Explosion is the1998 debut album by The Daktaris. Released on Desco Records, the label was Gabriel Roth's precursor to what he and Philippe Lehman would create with Daptone Records. Everyone in the band are pseudonymous but some of them would move on with their real names to become a part of Antibalas.

The Funk Box is a 4CD compilation released in 2000 consisting of some of the most primal funk and soul music, many of which are now owned by the Universal catalog and is there a reason this was released by Universal reissue subsidiary Hip-O? Yes.

"Trombipulation" is the 9th album by the funk band Parliament. It was released by Casablanca Records. It was the last album of original material produced by the group for 38 years until Medicaid Fraud Dogg in 2018. Unlike previous Parliament albums, George Clinton did not serve as sole producer of the album, as other P-Funk figures assisted in producing individual tracks. Bassist Bootsy Collins emerged as the principal musician on this album, playing virtually all of the instruments on a number of tracks. The track "Let's Play House" was sampled by the Hip-Hop group Digital Underground for their single "The Humpty Dance". While Trombipulation wasn't as commercially successful as previous Parliament albums, its first single, "Agony of DeFeet" peaked at #7 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts.

With George Clinton, a humorous phrase could be nothing more than playful tomfoolery, or it could be a double entendre with a deep political meaning. The phrase "electric spanking of war babies" falls into the latter category – it referred to what the funk innovator saw as the U.S. government using the media to promote imperialistic wars. To Clinton, the American media functioned as a propaganda machine during wartime.
