The book is a humorous murder mystery, and while there are ghosts it's not really a paranormal story. The heroine, Gianna, lives in an apartment over her family's deli in New York. Ever since she had a near-death experience as a child, she has been able to see the ghosts of newly-dead persons before they are ready to enter the afterlife… through the deli's freezer in the basement. But until they feel ready to move on, this couple of friendly ghosts are Gianna's roommates.
