EMI Records managed to miss marking the 40th anniversary of the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's album, but they just about made up for it with this triple-CD set, packaged in a handsome hardcover book format. It offers fans of the early Pink Floyd a chance to do something for the first time in the CD era (and for the first time since the year 1967) - immerse themselves, up to the neck at least (if not quite to the top of the head) in the Syd Barrett-era Pink Floyd sound. EMI pulled out all the stops with this triple-disc set commemorating the 40th anniversary of the release of Pink Floyd's debut album, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, containing the stereo and mono mixes of the album on two separate digital platters, and augmenting them with a bonus CD containing the band's three early singles, plus two previously unreleased alternate takes (an "alternative version" of "Matilda Mother" and "Take 6" of "Interstellar Overdrive")…

The Piper at the Gates of Dawn is the debut studio album by English rock band Pink Floyd, released 5 August 1967 by EMI Columbia. The only album made under founding member Syd Barrett's leadership, it takes its title from chapter seven of Kenneth Grahame's 1908 novel The Wind in the Willows, which refers to the nature god Pan, and was recorded at EMI Studios in London from February to May 1967 with producer Norman Smith. The band at the time consisted of Syd Barrett (lead vocals, lead guitar), Nick Mason (drums), Roger Waters (bass, vocals), and Richard Wright (keyboards, vocals). Barrett also served as the band's primary songwriter, though two tracks on the album are credited to the band collectively and one track was written by Waters. The album was produced by Norman Smith, who would go on to produce two more albums for Pink Floyd.

The Final Cut is the twelfth studio album by English rock band Pink Floyd, released on 21 March 1983 in the United Kingdom and on 2 April in the United States through Harvest and Columbia Records. It comprises unused material from the previous Pink Floyd record, The Wall (1979), alongside new material recorded throughout 1982. The Final Cut was the last Pink Floyd album to feature founding member Roger Waters, who departed in 1985. It is also the only Pink Floyd album not to feature founding member and keyboardist Richard Wright, who was fired during the Wall sessions. The recording was plagued by conflict; guitarist David Gilmour felt many of the tracks were not worthy of inclusion, but Waters accused him of failing to contribute material himself. Drummer Nick Mason's contributions were mostly limited to sound effects. Waters planned the album as a soundtrack for the 1982 film adaptation of The Wall.

Being the quintessential album rock band, Pink Floyd hasn't had much luck with "best-of" and "greatest-hits" compilations, like A Collection of Great Dance Songs and the bizarro follow-up, Works. Since both of those were released in the early '80s (and time travel being unavailable even to Pink Floyd), they obviously left out any tracks from the post-Roger Waters era albums. While countless hours in dorm rooms have been spent laboring over whether or not the post-Waters recordings should even be considered the "real Floyd," the later albums nonetheless stand as a further progression in the band's evolution and warrant recognition…

DYNAMIC AND INTENSE BROADCAST RECORDING FROM FLOYD’S THIRD US TOUR • Recorded on Pink Floyd's third American tour, this show introduced San Francisco to some of the newer material from the Ummagumma LPs, and a taste of things soon to come on Atom Heart Mother, to be released later that year. This San Francisco audience is particularly quiet and attentive, a fact that seems to have facilitated a more intimate, unique and focused performance than other dates on this tour. • This show begins in a quiet, pastoral manner and continues to build in intensity as the sets progress. Of particular note in the first set are "Cymbaline" and the unreleased "Embryo," as well as the entire suite of "Atom Heart Mother." • After the acoustic opener to the second set, "Green Is the Colour," the band takes off into the outer realms of musical exploration for the rest of the evening. The last three compositions, in particular, show the band in an adventurous mood with standout performances of tracks from their first two albums. Following the marathon, 22-plus minute encore of "Saucerful of Secrets," the audience brings them back for a rare second encore of "Interstellar Overdrive." • Earlier this same day, the band had taped a memorable live performance for KQED TV in San Francisco. This tour met with disaster a few weeks later when the band's equipment was stolen during a multi-night engagement at the Warehouse in New Orleans. The rest of the tour was cancelled. Fortunately for fans of Pink Floyd, however, this broadcast recording remains - an earnest, unique perspective of the band in a formative time of their career.

In early 1993, David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Richard Wright set up their equipment in their own Britannia Row Studios in Islington and created more than hundred pieces of music by jamming together, interacting with each other's performances and recording the results. In 2014 David Gilmour and Nick Mason re-entered the studio and, starting with unreleased keyboard performances by Richard Wright, who sadly died in 2008, added further instrumentation to the tracks, as well as creating new material. The result is "The Endless River", including 60% of recordings other than the 1993 sessions, but based upon them.

"The Division Bell" is the fourteenth studio album by the English progressive rock band Pink Floyd. This is the second Pink Floyd album recorded without founding member Roger Waters, the album was written mostly by guitarist and singer David Gilmour and keyboardist Richard Wright. Recording took place in locations including the band's Britannia Row Studios and Gilmour's houseboat, Astoria. The production team included longtime Pink Floyd collaborators such as producer Bob Ezrin, engineer Andy Jackson, saxophonist Dick Parry, and bassist Guy Pratt. The Division Bell received mixed reviews, but reached number one in more than 10 countries, including the UK and the US. It was certified double platinum in the US the year it was released, and triple platinum in 1999. Unused material from the Division Bell sessions became part of Pink Floyd's next album, "The Endless River" (2014).

Appearing after the sprawling, unfocused double-album set Ummagumma, Atom Heart Mother may boast more focus, even a concept, yet that doesn't mean it's more accessible. If anything, this is the most impenetrable album Pink Floyd released while on Harvest, which also makes it one of the most interesting of the era…
