Let's give credit to whomever assembled this swinging free-improvisation trio. Sometimes, no, invariably, all great improvised music results from the reciprocal nature of the musicians: not something done in response to another (although it can be) but by some subconscious agreement made by the players. A fine example is Life's Intense Mystery by the trio of pianist Burton Greene, bassist Damon Smith and drummer Ra Kalam Bob Moses.

This is a benefit album for Lyn Ulbricht (mom of Silk Road founder Ross Ulbricht). Containing 17 tracks by the world's best microtonal musicians in a variety of genres. Microtonal means music that does not use standard 12-tone western scales. When done right, like on this album, it sounds simultaneously bizarre but familiar. People with open minds will love it. In fact, this album can even be a good test of strangers.

HIIT is a piano trio of contemporary improvised music, with compositional frames that feed focused real-time composition. You hear aesthetics reminiscent of the improvised and composed music of the 20th and 21st century. You hear hot blooded energy which is not afraid of lyric melody, abstract contemplation, and structured formal matrixes.

Venezuelan guitarist and composer Juanma Trujillo has been an active member of the international jazz and improvised music scene playing in groups with artists such as Francisco Mela, Ras Moshe, William Parker, Billy Martin, Mimi Jones, Ra Kalam Bob Moses and Arturo O’Farrill among others. Trujillo has developed a personal playing style that embraces many musical lineages from jazz, rock and Latin American music to improvised music and noise, he continually strives to innovate amongst his contemporaries while also incorporating the mastery of his predecessors into his forward-leaning artistic explorations.
