The backstage are Jonas Reingold, Craig Blundell & Rob Townsend of Steve’s Genesis Revisited band. The Backstage has gathered Prog/Jazz/Fusion royalty from around the globe in this exciting, eclectic project and has created the best Prog/Fusion music inspired by the sounds of the 70-ies. Featuring: Steve Hackett, Tom Brislin, Marco Minneman, Nick Beggs, Roger King, Roine Stolt, Pat Mastelotto, Mike Thorne, Andy Tillison, Krister Jonsson, Carl Orr, Adam Holzman, Luke Machin, Randy McStine, James Taylor, Lelo Nika, Chris Lord Alge and Lalle Larsson.
Karmakanic is the project of The Flower Kings bassist Jonas Reingold. Yes, this is another The Flower Kings related release, and yes, Reingold is joined here by bandmates Roine Stolt on guitars and vocals, Tomas Bodin on keys, and Zoltan Csorsz on drums, as well as former TFK drummer Jaime Salazar, guitarist Johan Glossner, keyboard player Robert Engstrand, and former Yngwie Malmsteen singer Goran Edman. So, can we classify this as basically another The Flower Kings? On a few songs, it comes pretty close, but there is also a Pain of Salvation-ish prog metal vibe going on here, as well as some jazz-fusion that makes this an all-around winner.
Another excellent follow-up album from The Flower Kings after their previous excellent work titled “Space Revolver”. “The Rainmaker” is much more accessible than its predecessor as the music, overall, is more melodic and the music is more solid. Excellent harmony which blends stunning guitar work by Roine Stolt, Bodin’s floating and soaring keyboard sound – both of them are fully supported with excellent combination of bass guitar, drums, percussion and powerful vocals. You don't have to be a prog head to enjoy this music, if you love great rock and roll you need to hear this CD. Yes indeed, they are serious dreamers…
Waiting for Miracles is the first long-player by the Flower Kings since 2013's Desolation Rose. It marks a return from exile for the Flower Kings after 2018's Waiting for an Alchemist - which was billed to Roine Stolt's the Flower King. Here Stolt, Hasse Fröberg, and Jonas Reingold are joined by new members keyboardist Zach Kamins and drummer Mirko DeMaio who are not, based on what is here, fully integrated into TFK's aesthetic. This is a band offering that contains the complex mood, textural, and color changes, intricate melodies, atmospheres, and dynamics that are at the heart of TFK's musical signature.
Waiting for Miracles clocks in at 85 minutes but showcases TFK in a more economical mode compositionally. That's not to say the band are writing pop songs; their music remains challenging prog rock that recalls the sound and feel of the band's first five records…
