Hotly tipped Icelandic quartet Kaleo deliver A/B, their debut album for Atlantic Records. Blending soulful indie folk ballads and smoldering, riffy rockers, the young quartet explore their fascination with American blues and roots rock on this ten-song effort co-produced by Nashville's Jacquire King (Kings of Leon, City and Colour). In spite of some of the more Americana-leaning acoustic fare like "All the Pretty Girls" and "Automobile," a big, bluesy garage rock approach takes center stage on A/B, with bangers like "Glass House" and "No Good" (as heard on the trailer for HBO series Vinyl) leading the charge.

For the casual fan of cello music, this four-disc set of Russian works for cello and piano may seem like far too much of a good thing. After all, the cello sonatas of Rubinstein, Myaskovsky, and Borodin are anything but standard repertoire. For the dedicated fan of cello music, this set may not seem up to the level of the great performances of the past. After all, Rostropovich has already recorded Prokofiev's Cello Sonata accompanied by Richter in the presence of the composer and Shostakovich's Cello Sonata accompanied by the composer and these performances are understandably hard to top for expressivity and authenticity.

The birth of Russian national music culture in the 19th century is closely connected with Glinka. Balakirev was one of the initiators of the group in which musicians of varying creative inclinations & abilities came together. The oriental element is very evident in works by Borodin & he makes effective use of the exotic sound world in his only opera Prince Igor. Rimsky-Korsakov is represented as a composer in his own right on this recording by his overture Russian Easter Festival (1888). Tchaikovsky was not a member of the "Mighty Five", unlike the composers already mentioned, but he too strove to write works in which typical national features were prominent.
