There's only one Kaya… literally. S. Husky Hoskulds made it by taking an old Ampex tube tape deck and hardwiring the preamp directly to the tape head. He calls his unit 'Pa', a minimal box with swampy distortion and a very heavy bottom.

There seem to be two types of mix engineers: those who own a pair of the original units this plug is inspired by, and those who want to. I can't give you the original, but I can give you my twisted take on it.

Sly Johnson is releasing (finally) his new and third album. This all-round artist, beatboxeur, rapper, instrumentalist or composer, offers us "Silvere" in reference to the first name given by his parents. A return hoped as his second album could boast of a beautiful power tinged with groove and soul.

This album first came out in 1985, with practically no stateside recognition. Which is a shame, because this is right up there with Herbie Hancock's "Future Shock" for originality.

London’s kings of noise Sly & The Family Drone follow up their 2019 Love Love LP ‘Gentle Persuaders’ with ‘Walk It Dry’, an 8 track LP collaboratively released by Love Love Records in the UK and Feeding Tube Records across the pond in the USA. ‘Walk It Dry’ utilises the familiar sound palette of scronked electronics, bulging noise blasts, wailing sax & Kalashnikov drums that was found on ‘Gentle Persuaders’ but is a very a different beast. The tracks here are shorter and punchier as the band digs deeper than ever to find increasingly potent sonic pockets.

Welcome to Chilo, a planet with corrosive rain, crushing pressure, and deadly heat. The newcomer is fleeing an alien intelligence intent on invading the planet and discovering the secret hidden deep inside the perpetual storm—a secret that could lead to interplanetary war. As the invaded cities fall silent one by one, Chilo’s citizens must race against time to stop the enemy. And Timas will find out what kind of man he has become in the harsh conditions of Chilo’s surface.
