'Seneca' is based in the southern finger lakes region of New York (Elmira-Corning-Horseheads) and was first formed in the early '90s and recorded, released our first album, and performed regionally for about 6 years before the members disbanded to pursue other musical projects. However, we all remained close friends and collaborated musically the past 3-4 years to record this second album/ CD and to perform several 'reunion' shows with hopefully more to come. Our music has been influenced by such bands as Steely Dan, Pink Floyd, Supertramp, Doobie Bros, Little Feat, and Genesis and our lyric content has been described as spiritual, political, and addresses adult life issues. We are very proud of our instrumental and vocal performances and hope that you enjoy our latest creation.

Marvin, Welch & Farrar (aka MWF) were a 1970s British and Australian popular music group formed by Hank Marvin and Bruce Welch, both members of The Shadows – as a change of direction manoeuvre during 1970 to 1973 – and John Farrar (ex-The Strangers). The distinction was that while The Shadows were famous for their instrumental work, Marvin Welch & Farrar were a trio, vocal harmony group. They have been favourably compared to USA folk close harmony group Crosby Stills Nash and Young (aka CSNY) and The Hollies. Their second album, Second Opinion (1971), produced by Peter Vince, in a private poll during the 1970s by EMI record's Abbey Road's sound engineers, was voted as one of the best ever sounding albums recorded at these studios. This album is a compilation of MWF's first and second album.

Following the critical acclaim and enthusiastic response to Heavy Sugar: The Pure Essence of New Orleans R&B, compiler Stuart Colman has dug deep into the city’s unique recording legacy to bring about a sumptuous second helping. In addition to the requisite sourcings, the net has been cast wider still in order to focus on material gleaned from such picayune outlets as Rustone, Pontchartrain, Athens, Winner and Spinett. There is a very good reason for this.

I thought my musical tastes were eclectic, but they are nothing like those of my friends at Hemifran in Sweden, who keep sending me large parcels of eclectic CD’s that cover the musical spectrum in ways not seen since the heady days of Volume and Oz Records in the backstreets of Newcastle during my formative teenage years. The absolute gem this month is the double album, Second Thoughts from Sweden’s Klas Qvist aka Citizen K. Reased by the enigmatic album cover I delved in without looking at the press release.

When Dave Samuels first formed the Caribbean Jazz Project with, at that time, Paquito D'Rivera and Andy Narell, it was an extension of his own studies in Latin jazz that had been part of his music - both solo and with Spyro Gyra – since the mid-'70s. After two albums with the first team, the Project was set aside for other gigs. During this time, Samuels kindled musical friendships with flutist Dave Valentin and guitarist Steve Khan, and Samuels got excited about the possibility of playing off of a traditional Latin instrument – flute and the guitar, which wasn't.

Hear why Offbeat Magazine says, "Johnny Vidacovich is not only one of the greatest drummers in New Orleans - he's one of the greatest drummers in the world." This is Johnny Vidacovich's third and most diverse CD, presenting his artistry as the central theme. Vidacovich plays a series of interspersed duo pieces, that stand out on their own or materialize as a result of a groove. Using an eclectic sound of accompanying instrumentation, with sousaphone, keyboards, bass, saxes, bass clarinet and guitar, Johnny boils up the beat and occasionally seasons it with some of his out-da-box poetry recitation. Along with Michael Pellera and Jeffrey Meyer, Johnny has contributed to this playground of songs which free the players to romp to his beat. Pellera, Matt Perrine, Tony Dagradi and Shane Theriot, all add the right flavor to this great recording, allowing the listener to savor the main ingredient, Johnny Vidacovich.

Skinny Puppy was indeed one of the most collectable industrial bands, issuing many singles that contained surprisingly strong tracks. In 1999, Nettwerk compiled some of the best for the companion to The Singles Collect. These tracks aren't the rarest in the Skinny Puppy catalog, considering most are B-sides from later singles like "Testure," "Worlock," "Censor," "Tormentor," and "Spasmolytic."

I’ve long overlooked Pepper’s later work, there is so much good stuff in his prime, but when I stumbled on this lovely three box set recorded in 1977, and with one of my recent favourite bassists, George Mraz, and Mr Elvin Jones on drums, a second opinion was long overdue. Recorded over three nights before a relaxed appreciative audience (no jackass stomping hooting or whistling, – apologies to those who welcome the more demonstrative audience ) this live set automatically has you turning the lights down low and joining the audience, a decanter positioned strategically within arms reach.
