Thanks to the surprising proliferation of Mahler’s music on DVD, there are multiple performances of this particular symphony with which to compare this new one (not least among them Bernstein’s and Abbado’s); there is also Boulez’s own previous performance with the Vienna Philharmonic, made a couple of months after this concert, available on one generous DG CD, to consider by way of comparison.

Skinny Puppy was indeed one of the most collectable industrial bands, issuing many singles that contained surprisingly strong tracks. In 1999, Nettwerk compiled some of the best for the companion to The Singles Collect. These tracks aren't the rarest in the Skinny Puppy catalog, considering most are B-sides from later singles like "Testure," "Worlock," "Censor," "Tormentor," and "Spasmolytic."

Drawing from the pioneering work of artists like Throbbing Gristle, Cabaret Voltaire, and Suicide, the dark avant-industrial group Skinny Puppy formed in 1982 in Vancouver, British Columbia. Originally a duo comprised of former Images in Vogue drummer cEvin Key (born Kevin Crompton) and Nivek Ogre (aka Kevin Ogilvie), Skinny Puppy followed their debut cassette, Back and Forth, with the EP Remission, the first of many recordings with producer David "Rave" Ogilvie, in 1984…

A major influence on British guitar heroes of the '70s such as Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page, Hank Marvin played lead guitar for the Shadows, one of the U.K.'s top instrumental outfits and backing band for Cliff Richard on most of his hits. Born Brian Robson Rankin on October 28, 1941, Marvin grew up in Newcastle learning guitar, banjo and piano. He played in various skiffle groups around the area, and met up with rhythm guitarist Bruce Welch.

Even when the industrial revolution happened, few North American bands sounded as manic and dense as the mighty Skinny Puppy. Tackling unpopular political topics, blurring distorted vocals into synth lines, sampling news broadcasts and horror films – these were the tactics that Skinny Puppy utilized on VIVIsectVI, one of their true masterpieces.

Hear why Offbeat Magazine says, "Johnny Vidacovich is not only one of the greatest drummers in New Orleans - he's one of the greatest drummers in the world." This is Johnny Vidacovich's third and most diverse CD, presenting his artistry as the central theme. Vidacovich plays a series of interspersed duo pieces, that stand out on their own or materialize as a result of a groove. Using an eclectic sound of accompanying instrumentation, with sousaphone, keyboards, bass, saxes, bass clarinet and guitar, Johnny boils up the beat and occasionally seasons it with some of his out-da-box poetry recitation. Along with Michael Pellera and Jeffrey Meyer, Johnny has contributed to this playground of songs which free the players to romp to his beat. Pellera, Matt Perrine, Tony Dagradi and Shane Theriot, all add the right flavor to this great recording, allowing the listener to savor the main ingredient, Johnny Vidacovich.

David Craft of Jesus Freak Hideout gave the album a below-average review, awarding it 2 out of 5 stars due lack of originality and redundancy.

I’ve long overlooked Pepper’s later work, there is so much good stuff in his prime, but when I stumbled on this lovely three box set recorded in 1977, and with one of my recent favourite bassists, George Mraz, and Mr Elvin Jones on drums, a second opinion was long overdue. Recorded over three nights before a relaxed appreciative audience (no jackass stomping hooting or whistling, – apologies to those who welcome the more demonstrative audience ) this live set automatically has you turning the lights down low and joining the audience, a decanter positioned strategically within arms reach.

A courageous move, a courageous album. With the death of vocalist Lee Brilleaux in April 1994, the story of Dr. Feelgood came to a grinding, heartbreaking halt. He had been the last surviving original member for more years than any other original member had been on board, an institution within an institution. How could the band even dream of continuing on without him? At first, they couldn't. But as the band's own authorized biography, Tony Moon's Down by the Jetty, points out that time is a great healer. So is the encouragement of friends, fans, and family.
