Patrick Benguigui est né en 1959 en Algérie. Ses parents divorcent et il s'installe à Argenteuil avec sa mère. En 78, il tourne dans son premier film Coup de Sirocco. Lors d'un voyage à New York, il rencontre Gérard Presgurvic, auteur, qui devient son compagnon musical. Bruel sort son premier 45 tours Vide, en 81. Mauvais départ, le single passe inaperçu. Il faut attendre Marre de cette nana-là, pour que le public s'intéresse à lui. Il enchaîne les succès et poursuit sa carrière cinématographique. Son dernier album en date, paru en 2006, s’intitule Des souvenirs devant.
