For prolific British progressive rocker Steven Wilson, the two-CD set Grace for Drowning is his second official solo album, following 2008's Insurgentes. Recording under his own name, Wilson tends to fall somewhere between his popular Porcupine Tree group project and his ambient recordings as Bass Communion. Grace for Drowning's two discs are divided into one called Deform to Form a Star and another called Like Dust I Have Cleared from My Eye, both named after tracks on them. In the relatively sparse lyrics that Wilson sings with a calm, British-accented tenor, he seems melancholy at first, apparently suffering from the aftermath of a romantic breakup…

Catalogue / Preserve / Amass is a live album released in 2012 by British musician and record producer Steven Wilson, known for being the founder and frontman of psychedelic/progressive rock band Porcupine Tree. After pre-ordering this a week or so ago, when I got home this evening there it was waiting for me. No doubt I will carry it around with me for days and days, playing little games, like not looking at it for a whole day, and then…looking at it to see if I still liked it…I'm sure I will. The more I look at it, the more I like it…..hang on, haven't I heard that somewhere before?….

Between 2003 and 2010, Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree) released six CD singles, each featuring a cover version backed with a new original song. Titled, appropriately enough, Cover I through Cover VI, the first of these singles was significant because it was the first release issued under his own name. All of these were almost ridiculously limited. The titles were all compiled before - when Cover VI was released, the other singles were included in a lavishly designed box - but this marks the first time all 12 tracks have been widely available. The music presented here is performed completely solo save for chamber and orchestral elements on some tracks that were added on later, and showcases a different, more intimate side of Wilson…

The blu-ray was previously only available as part of the excellent, but expensive, super deluxe edition of Who's Next, which was released just over a year ago. It features Steven Wilson remixes of Who's Next and 14 bonus tracks. Those bonus tracks are of the highest quality and include unedited versions of singles such as 'The Seeker', 'Let's See Action' and 'Join Together' Wilson has created Dolby Atmos Mixes, dedicated 5.1 mixes and new stereo mixes of all 23 tracks on the blu-ray with the exception of 'Bargain' for which the multi-tracks unfortunately could not be found (a Penteo 'upmix' was created for that track for the spatial/surround mixes). The SDE blu-ray exclusively features Steven Wilson instrumental mixes of the album and all the bonus tracks (except 'Bargain' for the reasons stated above). These instrumentals do not features on the blu-ray in the box set.

Insurgentes is a film by Lasse Hoile about SW, a musical road movie that follows the making of his solo record of the same name, and is a portrait of an increasingly rare artist who works with music and media out of love and not for fame and fortune, persisting in making art on his own terms in a world where ‘throw away’ mentality is increasingly becoming the norm. The 2 disc set also features a host of extras including 6 exclusive bonus audio tracks from the album sessions, a 31 minute film of SW/Pig live in Mexico City, and the Harmony Korine video. Subtitled in Spanish, French, German and English. Sound mixed in stereo and 5.1 surround sound.

Steven Wilson's 4½ is a six-track (+ bonus track for Japan) stopgap mini album between 2015's Hand. Cannot. Erase. and whatever full-length comes next. Four tunes have origins in the previous album's sessions; another dates back to those from 2013's The Raven That Refused to Sing and Other Stories. There is also a re-recording of "Don't Hate Me" that first appeared on Porcupine Tree's 1998 offering, Stupid Dream. The players are by now familiar: Wilson's current working band comprises Guthrie Govan, Adam Holzman, Nick Beggs, Dave Kilminster, Craig Blundell, Marco Minnemann, Chad Wackerman, and Theo Travis. Opener "My Book of Regrets" is a nine-plus-minute exercise that commences with a seductive pop melody, and offers a hooky chorus and syncopated dynamics. It evolves into spiraling prog rock courtesy of Beggs' front-line Chris Squire-esque bassline, fueling Govan and Wilson's spiky…
