By some distance the biggest thing to ever come out of Denver City, Texas, Tanya Tucker took the country world by surprise with her 1972 debut smash, "Delta Dawn"; not since Brenda Lee's mid-1950s records had an adolescent country singer sounded so little like a gimmick. Unfortunately, following a healthy string of country hits, an ill-advised move into rock & roll, starting with 1978's TNT, began a period of personal and professional turmoil. For most of the 1980s, Tucker was as well known for her tempestuous affair with Glen Campbell, which regularly landed the pair in the gossip pages with tales of chemically-fueled public spats.

In 2022 Lee Kernaghan celebrates his 30th Anniversary as an artist. The year will be filled with celebrations including a new studio album to kick things off he’s taking us back to where it all began with a triple album of his greatest hits from the decades.

Recorded at the renowned 'Fame Recording Studio' in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, during the summer of 2022, the album features twelve of Texas’ greatest hits, and two covers ('Would I Lie To You' by Charles and Eddie and 'Save The Last Dance' by The Drifters) - reimagined and laid bare. Stripped back to their bare bones, guided by the soulful voice of Sharleen Spiteri, accompanied by the delicate piano lines of Spooner Oldham, the songs simply shine in this format and prove their worth as sheer standalone timeless classics.

Texas always seemed out of place, from the moment they released their debut until the time they hit the big time with White on Blonde in the second half of the '90s. They may have been able to gain momentum from Britpop, but they didn't really belong, since their sensibility was far too soulful and classy, borrowing equally from the smooth soul of the '70s, Americana fascinations, and, in a roundabout way, the sophisti-pop of the '80s. Still, they were professional, stylish, and, thanks to Sharleen Spiteri, sexy, which meant they did make sense in the aftermath of Britpop, even if they were a bit out of step. As the splendid Greatest Hits proves, they could even have made it into the American mainstream if they had received a push on adult alternative pop/rock radio, since they were melodic, classy, and solid.
