Perhaps the most unique thing about Whitesnake is that this four- or five-piece band is in fact a one man’s band in many respects and that the frequent personal changes within their line-up are nothing surprising. Whitesnake is then a band of many incarnations and many faces, and there are staunch followers of every – from their blues rock beginnings in the late ‘70s to the recent line-up that toured the world in support of 2011 Forevermore album.

Rock music in the 1980s had completely lost the gritty feel of earlier eras, until Lenny Kravitz rediscovered the magic formula. Kravitz's sonic template combined good old-fashioned rock & roll with glam, soul, and psychedelia, making him a massive success. He made a splash straight out of the gate with his album Let Love Rule. After that, he de-emphasized the flower-power aspects of his music and began moving toward a heavier rock sound. This progression brought him such huge hits as "Are You Gonna Go My Way" and a hard-rocking cover of the Guess Who's "American Woman." Along the way, his flamboyant image, model-like looks, and frequent acting roles made him a fixture in pop-music circles.

Here is the ultimate career reprospective for one of the most successful UK bands of all time. Spanning Slade's entire recording career, it features 84 tracks - monster hits, key album cuts and rarities. It just seems incredible that Slade have had to wait this long for a Box Set when several lesser bands have had more than they actually deserve. Slade were the undoubted Kings of the 70s Charts, their singles and albums were pretty much unbeatable. I think if you listen to this set you will hear the story of a band that reached an unbelievable commercial high and then for some reason when they were making some of their best records the popularity started to decline. I bought this on the day of release and it sounds absolutely brilliant! The remastered tracks are all stunning and it just shows a band with two of the best songwriters ever to come out of the UK.

All six of the albums Hanoi Rocks made in their original incarnation – Bangkok Shocks, Saigon Shakes, Hanoi Rocks, Oriental Beat, Self Destruction Blues, Back to the Mystery City, Two Steps from the Move, and All Those Wasted Years – are packaged together, one album to one CD, in this straightforward six-CD set. There are no extras, just the albums as they were originally released, though there's a 12-page booklet with a solid history of the band and numerous (if small) reproductions of sleeves from their original releases. It's too much at once even for many fans, but for the more dedicated of that lot, it's a handy encapsulation of their primary recorded work. Hearing all of it does make it clear that, although they're often classified as a heavy metal band, they might be more accurately pegged as a hard rock band with substantial traces of glam and pop (and even some bar band blues-rock) along with the metal.
