Steppenwolf 7 is the fifth studio album by Canadian-American rock band Steppenwolf. The album was released in November 1970, by Dunhill Records. It is the first Steppenwolf album with new bass player George Biondo. The album’s numerical title reflects the fact that it was the band’s seventh album release for ABC/Dunhill records (including the four preceding studio LP’s, as well as two live albums). While the album featured Steppenwolf's trademark rock and roll sounds, none of the songs were able to make the top 40. The album featured a cover of Hoyt Axton's "Snowblind Friend", their second cover of one of his antidrug songs (the first being "The Pusher").

This short but delectably sweet release is for most intents and purposes the soundtrack to the Frank Zappa concert film of the same name. Both were captured on location at New York City's Palladium (formerly the Academy of Music) in 1977, during the artist's brief yearly residency in the Big Apple in and around Halloween…

Official Release #89. By 1978, Frank Zappa's live concerts easily eclipsed those by any other rock band, due to his demanding rehearsals (in the case of this band, they worked for three months prior to touring), which not only enabled him to segue continuously from one song to the next, but also to change things with a few hand signals in the midst of a concert. This posthumously released three-CD set compiles the best performances from several early 1978 shows at Hammersmith Odeon in London, edited in the same seamless fashion as his live performances.

The Trashmen, a Minneapolis band, recorded the 1:20-minute "Surfin Bird" in the basement of George Garrett's record shop in the fall of 1963. Recorded in the basement of George Garrett's record store. When they played the tape to Bill Diehl, a DJ at Minneapolis radio station WDGY, he said it was too short and suggested they re-record it. The Trashmen were taken by Garrett to Kay Bank Studios four blocks away and re-recorded. Released in November on the Garrett label, "Surfin Bird" received airplay on WDGY, selling 3,000 copies in its first week and reaching #3 in Minneapolis in its second week. The record was distributed by Soma Records and was a hit everywhere, climbing to #4 in the U.S. in January 1964. The hit hit song "Crazy" galvanized Minneapolis teens, and many teen bands visited Kay Bank Studios to make records with Garrett, including The Gestures, who went on to become one of the most popular teen bands of all time. Some of these groups, like The Gestures and The Castaways, had national hits. This compilation is a collection of Soma Records/Kay Bank Studios-related material that captures the vibrancy of the Minneapolis teen scene from 1964 to 1966. It is full of the charm of the local teen garage scene, which was different from that of New York and Los Angeles, more down-to-earth and more "Bird Fever" than "British Fever".

CLASSIC 1978 BROADCAST FROM GERMANY S THEN DIVIDED CITY After falling out with his long-time manager Herb Cohen, Frank Zappa spent much of the late 1970s in a legal battle with Cohen and later with Warner Brothers too. With the majority of his own recorded material thus tied up, Zappa concentrated on touring with a small, rock-oriented band. March 1978 witnessed the release of Zappa In New York, recorded live with a 13-strong band at the Palladium in late December 1976. Demonstrating in equal measure Zappa s extraordinary ability as a composer and fearless approach to controversial topics, the record reached a respectable No. 57 on the Billboard chart. Two standout numbers from In New York, Titties & Beer and The Black Page , would be a fixture of Zappa sets by the time his 1978 European tour rolled around, as the concert featured on this two CD set can attest.

Here Lucky goes to Memphis. Several years into a solo career, the former blues whiz kid plays good keyboards and guitar, and sings stirringly on originals and covers from all over the black music map (Stevie Wonder, Jimi Hendrix, Les McCann & Eddie Harris, blues piano master Roosevelt Sykes, etc.) His modern soul-cum-blues is hot, sweaty, and aggressive, and he gets the job done in busy arrangements shared with the Memphis Horns, honey-throated back-up singers, and muscular hired guns like bassist Willie Weeks and drummer Crusher Green. Peterson had the good sense to collaborate with New Yorker Jim Payne when writing five songs for the album, including the killer slow blues instrumental that doubles as the album title.
