The Souljazz Orchestra combine Jazz, Funk, African and Latin music while touching on politics and spirituality. Think: James Brown meets up with Tito Puente and they all hook up to jam at Fela Kuti's house. This high-energy release focuses mainly on Afro Beat music and features the vocals of Mighty Popo, Alanna Stuart and Marielle Rivard. The album is already creating a buzz on the dancefloor Jazz scene and receiving worldwide attention. But it's the track "Mista President" that is blowing up the spot!

Canada's Souljazz Orchestra were well-known to audiences in Europe before their 2010 Strut debut, Rising Sun; it was the sextet's first all-acoustic effort. Meeting with nearly universal acclaim, it spread the sextet's well-deserved reputation for creating a musically adventurous meld of global styles, accurately reflecting roots cultures as they dialogue with one another in the 21st century – without watering them down. Solidarity furthers the band's reach as it employs vocal talents from a wide range of singers from Canada's vast underground music scene.

The Souljazz Orchestra return with a brand new studio album for our troubled times, ‘Chaos Theories’, released on Strut on 13 th September. Always known for their uncompromising social and political messages, the Canadian collective hit harder than ever on 9 new tracks, outing the hypocrisy of modern day politics, police brutality and the everyday struggle of the working man.

Recorded using the Orchestra s signature analogue techniques at their studio HQ in their home city of Ottawa, the new set continues their expansive musical journey as they effortlessly fuse intricate Eastern influences, Afro beats, Egyptian jazz, Latin styles and spiritual elements into their unique musical melting pot. The secret to the band s sound remains a true openness to global music of all kinds and the individual experiences of the Orchestra s band members.

“We approached this album with a fresh ear,” explains bandleader Pierre Chrétien. “We were keen to build on the band’s sound and message, bringing in some of the French Caribbean and Francophone West African influences that we’ve loved since our youth, so the new album brings in French language tracks and elements of coupé-décalé, zouk and cadence to the overall mix.”
