Entertainment! is one of those records where germs of influence can be traced through many genres and countless bands, both favorably and unfavorably. From groups whose awareness of genealogy spreads wide enough to openly acknowledge Gang of Four's influence (Fugazi, Rage Against the Machine), to those not in touch with their ancestry enough to realize it (rap-metal, some indie rock) – all have appropriated elements of their forefathers' trailblazing contribution. Its vaguely funky rhythmic twitch, its pungent, pointillistic guitar stoccados, and its spoken/shouted vocals have all been picked up by many.

Pi2 (π2) were formed as something of a Spanish super-group in 1998, with nationally-known producer and composer Pito Costa reassembling a lineup of Lluís Ribalta, Llís Casals, Albert Lleal and Oriol Camprodón that had previously worked together to create the compositions which would become their first album, 'Retorn'.
This is their third and to me most mature album. The opener delivers pleasant symphonic rock with a 'neo-progressive feel' (Marillion, Pendragon), the electric guitarwork is good (powerful and sensitive soli with echoes from Gilmour and Rothery), the keyboards sound lush (Banks-inspired synthesizer runs) and the music has lots of shifting moods (from romantic to bombastic)…

This career-spanning collection reimagines 12 classic Johnny Cash performances via new symphonic arrangements recorded at the fabled Abbey Road Studio 2 with The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Performances range from archetypal Cash classics like “Man In Black” and “Ring Of Fire” to essential musical collaborations including “Girl From The North Country” (Bob Dylan with Johnny Cash), “The Loving Gift” (with June Carter Cash) and “Highwayman” (with Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson and Johnny Cash).

Sly Stewart is one of pop and rock's great enigmas. A charismatic performer, full of a boundless, good energy, a wonderful songwriter and, at least when he was in his prime, a man with a sure vision, Sly still somehow managed to throw it all away by the mid-'70s. The classic work he did with Sly & the Family Stone, though, is worth its weight in gold.
