“This very special period made me think and put a lot of things into perspective. I said to myself, finished the superfluous, if this is to be my last album, I do not want to put anything unnecessary, the watchword is therefore: Straight to the essential! Hence the title of this album ”.

There’s been a gradual increase in genre bending bands emerging from the artful depths in recent years. KING GIZZARD AND THE LIZARD WIZARD, RAKETKANON and GIRAFFES? GIRAFFES! all spring to mind, and nestled within their ranks are Belgian five-piece THE GURU GURU. Their new album Point Fingers is a record that refuses to conform to any already established boundaries yet holds it’s own with some semblance of structure that feels like every single chaotic moment has been thought about deliberately.

Getting to the Point is the second studio album by the British blues rock band Savoy Brown. It marks the debut of a vastly different lineup, still led by Kim Simmonds but fronted by new vocalist Chris Youlden. It was released by Decca in 1968 with catalog number SKL 4935 and finds the group taking on more of the songwriting load, as opposed to their debut, which consisted mostly of covers. One of the covers is "You Need Love" by Willie Dixon, which served as a blueprint for "Whole Lotta Love" by Led Zeppelin. Deram released the cd with three bonus tracks in 1990 with catalog number 820 922-2.

Nilsson's two late-'60s/early-'70s soundtrack albums, Skidoo and The Point!, were released as a single-disc two-fer as part of RCA Camden's Nilsson reissue campaign. Of the two, The Point! holds up a bit better, since it was designed to stand on its own more than Skidoo, yet the two are an ideal pairing, showing Nilsson's silly humor, studio inventiveness, and pop songcraft if not at a peak, then at least in a highly distinctive, amusing setting…
