This My Bloody Valentine

The full-length self-titled debut from enigmatic, pop due Cults was recorded and self-produced in the band s hometown of New York City. Working with engineer Shane Stoneback (Vampire Weekend, Sleigh Bells) the album is chock full of some of the most deliciously offbeat, slanted and enchanted songs you re likely to hear all year and includes some of the band s most coveted, first released tracks: Go Outside, Most Wanted, and Oh My God.

Forget the Night Ahead is the second studio album by Scottish indie rock band The Twilight Sad, released by Fat Cat Records on September 22, 2009 in the US, and on October 5, 2009 in the UK. The album was produced by guitarist Andy MacFarlane and recorded and mixed by Paul Savage at Chem19 Studios in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, Scotland. The album features the singles "I Became a Prostitute," "Seven Years of Letters," and "The Room."

To celebrate the 21st anniversary of their debut release, Blur s classic follow-up album Modern Life Is Rubbish has now been remastered from the original tapes by Frank Arkwright (The Smiths, Arcade Fire, New Order, Joy Division), with the remastering overseen by legendary original producer, Stephen Street. The Modern Life Is Rubbish Special Edition finally unites the non-album single Popscene (which was recorded whilst tracks from the album were being demo ed) with a Blur studio album. Also included in the accompanying bonus disc are all the Popscene, For Tomorrow and Chemical World b-sides (amongst which are nestled the Visit To Primrose Hill Extended Version of For Tomorrow, a reworked version of Chemical World and a cover of the Rod Stewart classic Maggie May. Completing the bonus disc are the b-sides to The Sunday Sunday Popular Community Song CD, (the official title of the main Sunday Sunday single release), the music-hall style covers of Daisy Bell and Let s All Go Down The Strand.

The arrival of a new Mogwai album – their eleventh – is cause for great celebration. The album’s title, The Bad Fire, is a working-class Glaswegian term for Hell. It reflects the difficult time that members of the band were going through. New to the studio was American producer John Congleton, known for his work with Explosions In The Sky, Sigur Rós, John Grant and pretty much everyone in between. Congleton’s work can be heard on the album’s three singles. The album opener “God Gets You Back” sounds like Daft Punk being hunted by My Bloody Valentine, while “Fanzine Made Of Flesh” sounds like a victory parade for a baby yeti; and “Lion Rumpus” does actually sound like a lion rumpus. The music of Mogwai is a difficult thing to describe, but an easy thing to experience. At punishing volume, it can annihilate your body, leaving you as little more than a head which should by rights fall helplessly to the ground. Yet the music contains an updraft, a sense of beauty encased in the onslaught. This holds you up, suspended and empowered, reminding you that paradise is your birthright. This is especially true of The Bad Fire. It may have been created in dark conditions, but all that is transcended by the act of four musicians working together here, now, in the moment – the only place where Mogwai exist.

Like the Velvet Underground, their most obvious influence, the chart success of the Jesus and Mary Chain was virtually nonexistent, but their artistic impact was incalculable; quite simply, the British group made the world safe for white noise, orchestrating a sound dense in squalling feedback which served as an inspiration to everyone from My Bloody Valentine to Dinosaur Jr. This is a CD with B-sides and rarities.
