"Xanadu" is the soundtrack of the 1980 musical film of the same name, featuring the Australian singer Olivia Newton-John and the British group Electric Light Orchestra (ELO). It was released in June 1980 on MCA Records in the United States and July 1980 by Jet Records in the United Kingdom. The original LP release featured on side one the songs of Newton-John, and on side two the songs of ELO. The Newton-John side also featured Cliff Richard, the Tubes and Gene Kelly. Although the film was a critical and commercial disappointment, the soundtrack was a worldwide success and received positive reviews from music critics going double Platinum in the US and Canada. The hit singles "Magic" and "Xanadu", peaked at #1 in the United States and United Kingdom, respectively. Both singles also went to #1 in the Netherlands and Italy, respectively. It was the 5th most popular US soundtrack in 1981.

Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence: Soundtrack from the Original Motion Picture is a soundtrack album for the 1983 film. All compositions on the album are by Sakamoto except "23rd Psalm", which is a traditional piece, and both "Ride, Ride, Ride" tracks, by Stephen McCurdy. In addition, David Sylvian contributed lyrics and vocals on "Forbidden Colours".

Last week, FromSoftware released Dark Souls III in Japan. The game was primarily composed by Yuka Kitamura (Dark Souls II, Bloodborne), with guest contributions from Motoi Sakuraba (Dark Souls, Dark Souls II), Tsukasa Saitoh (Bloodborne, Armored Core), and Nobuyoshi Suzuki (Bloodborne). As with Bloodborne, the soundtrack places a strong emphasis on haunting choral work with ensemble performances from the Tokyo Philharmonic.

A hand injury ended the performance career of pianist/guitarist Jeff Danna but his dream was kept alive with his transition to soundtrack composing. Using his score for the Warner Brothers television revival of Kung Fu: The Legend Continues, which he composed shortly after moving to Los Angeles in 1991, as a springboard, Danna became one of the top composers of television soundtracks. His resume includes composing the scores of more than one hundred and fifty shows including Beverly Hills 90210, Sweating Bullets, and A&E Biography and made-for-TV films including the Matthew Shepard Story and Baby.

The full details of the soundtrack album for Wes Anderson’s animated comedy Isle of Dogs have been revealed. The album features the film’s original music composed by Alexandre Desplat (The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Shape of Water, The Fantastic Mr. Fox, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, The Queen, The King’s Speech). Also included are compositions from the Japanese films Seven Samurai and Drunken Angel by Fumio Hayasaka, as well as I Won’t Hurt You by the psychedelic group The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band and The Sauter-Finegan Orchestra’s 1952 single Midnight Sleighride. The soundtrack will be released physically on March 30, 2018 by ABKCO Records and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Isle of Dogs is written and directed by Anderson and features the voices of Bryan Cranston, Koyu Rankin, Edward Norton, Liev Schreiber, Kunichi Nomura, Bill Murray, Jeff Goldblum, Bob Balaban, Scarlett Johansson and Greta Gerwig. The animated movie will be released in theaters on March 23 by Fox Searchlight.
