This is a great country tribute to Lynyrd Skynyrd. These songs sound different than the Skynyrd versions, but they are very good. It's nice to have this variety of sound, available on these Skynyd Classics. All of these artists on this cd have a lot of backing musicians, which makes the sound quality very good. Plus, this one includes a Skynyrd rarity, "Four Walls of Raiford". This song was written by the late/great Ronnie Van Zant and Jeff Carlisi. This CD is well worth the price, just for that one song alone. It's a great "prison" song. Plus, you get a female singer (Ashley Ray) performing "Sweet Home Alabama", which is nice.

They may not be what they used to be, but they still rock earnestly, and they aren't afraid to embrace their own history.

In addition, other Seventies stalwarts such as the Marshall Tucker Band, The Outlaws, The Charlie Daniels Band and Molly Hatchet are represented with their most well known songs.

Sing Monkey Sing, the fourth album from alternative Southern rockers Raging Slab, is a strange experience to say the least. A haphazardly assembled collection of half-baked, atonal Southern-tinged grinds, the album is simply a huge question mark – especially following the masterful accomplishment that was 1993's Dynamite Monster Boogie Concert…

Blackfoot were contemporaries of Lynyrd Skynyrd, and tried for years to make it as a Southern rock band, although they finally succeeded as a hard rock outfit, in the manner of AC/DC and the Scorpions.

38 Special is an American rock band that was formed by neighborhood friends Don Barnes and Donnie Van Zant in 1974 in Jacksonville, Florida. The band's first two albums had a strong southern rock influence. By the early 1980s, 38 Special shifted to a more accessible arena rock style without abandoning its southern rock roots. This shift helped to usher in a string of successful albums and singles.
This is very good sounding live show by Southern AOR Rockers 38 Special. This CD has also been released as "Memphis 1988".

Lynyrd Skynyrd is the ultimate Southern Rock band. Their signature three guitar attack coupled to superb songwriting and massive on stage charisma has rightfully earned them a reputation as one of the greatest live bands of all time. The original band infamously had their career cut short by a disastrous plane crash in 1977, which took the lives of three members plus two of their road crew and seriously injured several others. In 1987 the surviving members reformed the band with Johnny Van Zant taking the place of his brother Ronnie. This concert from 1996 captures the band on top form at Rockpalast's Loreley Festival on June 23, 1996.
