“Watch What Happens” represents a new chapter for Simone Basile, Manrico Seghi, and Giovanni Paolo Liguori. Following their debut album titled “Wes or No” (2018), where their reference point “Wes Montgomery” guided them through tracks and sounds, with this new album “Watch What Happens,” they form a cohesive and mature trio that immerses itself in the deep roots of jazz and blues, exploring its nuances and deepest emotions.

Like many pianists, Steve Kuhn seems to put out one quality disc after another but doesn't ever seem to get the attention he deserves. This beautifully recorded studio date from 1968, with bassist Palle Danielsson and drummer Jon Christensen, is a good example. Eschewing the typical easygoing approaches to Michel Legrand's "Watch What Happens," he launches into a very brisk bossa nova arrangement. J.J. Johnson's gorgeous ballad "Lament" was never in better hands as Kuhn delivers a shimmering but poignant performance; the piece segues into Gary McFarland's unjustly neglected "Once We Loved." A mini-medley of Burt Bacharach songs, "Windows of the World" and "Here I Am," with its unusual chanting introduction, has also stood the test of time. Carla Bley's "Ad Infinitum" delves briefly into the avant-garde but quickly reverts to post-bop.

Two laidback gems from Henry Mancini - back to back on a single SACD! Six Hours Past Sunset is moody and mellow - and perfect for late nite listening! The album has the tinkling piano of Mancini set over lush orchestrations - breezy, yet dark at the same time, outwardly simple, but filled with complex riffing and sophisticated washes of color and emotion. Warm Shade Of Ivory is lovely late nite Mancini! The album has Mr. M's tinkling piano set amidst dark moody arrangements that bank the piano in warm washes of strings and light lilting rhythms - all moving at a slow somber pace that's perfect for a summer night with the lights down low, the windows open, relaxing in a big easy chair with a drink while the breeze and the sounds of the summer waft over the room.

Lena & Gabor is an album by American vocalist Lena Horne and Hungarian guitarist Gábor Szabó, arranged and produced by Gary McFarland. It was recorded in 1969 and released on the Skye label.

This 1970 session from Oscar Peterson and his trio is considered one of the high points of the pianist's career. Accompanied by Sam Jones on double bass and Bobby Durham on drums, Peterson delves into the world of bossa nova on tracks such as "Triste" by Antônio Carlos Jobim. The majority of the tunes here are standards but there is one Peterson original number entitled "Nightingale".

A Day in the Life is an album by jazz guitarist Wes Montgomery that was released in 1967. It reached number one on the Billboard Jazz album chart and number 2 on the R&B chart. It also reached number 13 on the Billboard 200. The single "Windy" became his biggest Hot 100 hit when it peaked at number forty-four. After recording for Riverside and Verve, Montgomery signed with A&M. His renditions of pop hits were played regularly on Top 40 radio.
