Werner Herzog, director of such acclaimed documentaries as Grizzly Man and Little Dieter Needs to Fly, offers his unique perspective on the South Pole in this film profiling the Antarctic community of McMurdo Station. Located on Ross Island, McMurdo Station is the headquarters of the National Science Foundation. Whether offering a detailed study of the unique survival training regimen that newcomers to McMurdo are obligated to endure or pondering the majestic beauty of a landscape where the discovery of three new species in a single day is something worth truly celebrating, Herzog boldly offers viewers the opportunity to visit one of the most inaccessible and awe-inspiring landscapes on the planet.
Herzog dedicated this film to Roger Ebert.
Roger Corman's Cult Classics: The Nurses Collection (1971-1974) [Re-UP]

One of the three big staples of American sexploitation clichés (the other two being cheerleaders and stewardesses), the nurse movies of the 1970s proved popular enough that exploitation king Roger Corman did big box office with four of his entries all made in the first half of the decade (for some reason the first one, 1970's drive-in hit Student Nurses, has not been included). Shout! Factory, in their ongoing efforts to release the finest of Corman's films in excellent special edition DVD releases, wrangles up those four films for this new two-disc set, aptly titled Roger Corman Cult Classics - The Nurses Collection.

The Sunshine Company's very name summons the spirit of the mini-genre of 1960s pop-rock that, long after its heyday, was named sunshine pop. So does their music, with the requisite exquisite multi-part male-female harmonies, buoyant optimism, and luxuriant late-1960s L.A. studio production. Look a little under the surface, though, and you find tinges of eccentric melancholy that set them apart from many of the frothy Mamas and the Papas-like groups of the period. Just as their music was more multi-dimensional than you might be led to believe by their trio of Top 100 hits, so was their story more complex than many would imagine. Could there have been any other band whose brief career whisked them through the orbits of the Carpenters, the Fifth Dimension, Jackson Browne, the Jefferson Airplane, Mary McCaslin, and John Davidson, ending at the even unlikelier destination of a pre-stardom Gregg Allman?

The Fly was released in the midst of the 50’s monster-film craze, and make no mistake, it is an attempt to capitalize on that trend. But unlike most of those films, it never seems cheesy or campy, the science never seems like complete nonsense, and none of it comes across as unintentionally funny at this late date–even allowing for the relatively primitive special effects and the occasionally lampooned late scene involving a spider web. That scene isn’t silly here. It’s gut wrenching and horrific, exactly as it should be.

The Hоllies are an English pop and rock group, formed in Manchester in the early 1960s, though most of the band members are from throughout East Lancashire. Known for their distinctive vocal harmony style, they became one of the leading British groups of the 1960s and 1970s. They enjoyed considerable popularity in many countries, although they did not achieve major US chart success until 1966. Along with The Rоlling Stоnes and The Sеаrchers, they are one of the few British pop groups of the early 1960s that have never officially broken up and that continue to record and perform. The Hоllies were inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010. This 6 CD set includes all their recordings during period April 1963 to October 1966 while Graham Nash was in the group, songwriting with lead vocalist Allan Clarke and guitarist Tony Hicks. Also included previously unreleased live show from May 1968, and unissued foreign language recordings!
